So the news came up that there is a huge set of Enhancement / Modification / Upgrading / new Prototype Installation for Test scheduled on Liao Ning that is why it is scheduled for months to be worked on at the dock yard.

The most major modification is to install a set of Electrical Plane Launching Catapult which this aim is to confirm it's use at the sea, and the same Catapult is new being installed in the latest under construction #003 Giant Carrier Bigger than Gerald Ford of US Navy. It will be world's largest nuke powered carrier. Actually there is #004 also being constructed at the same time. Both #003 & 3004 are now in hundreds of divided blocks being constructed before these blocks can be finally assembled into carrier. Electric Catapult will be used in #003 & #004, both are likely to be nuke power but different version of designs. Electrical Plane Launching Catapult testing unit had been tested thousand times on a land-base mock-up carrier to launch J-15 and other model planes to also train pilots for taking off with launch catapult.

The idea of such catapults are to let heavier loaded planes take off from shorter runways. But it needs a complex system on board carrier using carrier's energy sources to do so.

Hence these system are subjected to combat damages and malfunction. I am of the view that Independent Disposable Booster Rockets mounted below wings or tails planes should be better, and can be used even if carrier power system was damaged, carrier was sinking, combat destruction or accidental, plane can pick people and flee without depending on complex launching mechanisms. More over launching catapult system needs a team of operators, what if they had been injured or killed in wars? Disposable Booster Rockets can be quickly mounted as long as there is still stocks. Out of stock? A helicopter trip can resupply hundreds of these rockets. Very robust and reliable solution.
