SINGAPORE: A 30-year-old man who was suspected of running an online prostitution site has pleaded guilty.
Chen Guoguang, a Singaporean who is currently unemployed, pleaded guilty on Friday (May 22) to nine charges of living on the earnings of prostitution.
Investigations showed that in March last year, Chen, who was then employed as a hawker stall assistant, decided to start an online business advertising sexual services by prostitutes. The court heard that he decided to take the business online because it would not require much capital and was “easy”.
He procured prostitutes to work for him via SMS or mobile chat application Wechat, and charged a monthly rate - which he increased as his business expanded - for the prostitutes to advertise their services on his website.
Chen was operating two websites: fateinsg.com and rjttsg.com. Investigations showed that he had collected a total of S$134,550 in earnings by February.
For each charge of living on the earnings of prostitution, Chen faces a maximum jail term of five years, and may also be fined up to S$10,000.
He will be sentenced on Friday afternoon.
