I agree with you on this. PAP in the 80s and later began to focus on success rather than on nation building. That success was very much economic. People and social issues became secondary.

One has to note that since that time, there has been no achievements associated with leadership except economic highs which are now less noticeable.

I believe the rot started way at the top. When the economy was roaring, the leaders started to become arrogant, complacent and pay themselves exorbitant salaries. This attitude filtered down through the ranks and the mainstream media started painting what a success Singapore was compared to our neighbours.
