On this day 38 years ago at Dempsey road I went up the 3 tonner for the first time with some other kids I had not seen before to serve the nation. No regrets during the 2yrs though I was physically and sexually abused by my corporal and sergeant.

30 years later those who laid on the barbed wire and had their fellow platoon mates step on their spine, would probably in their 50s experience deformed spine/slipped discs, nerve pinching and be suffering without help for the rest of their lives.

That is why I urge NS boys to keng as much as you can. SAF will never take care of you if you get injured in NS and how are you going to be gainfully employed if you at not 100% fit in the real world?

My BMT family visit day was cancelled at the last minute due to some silly logistical cockup.

No biggie, by that time many of us already have mobile phones.

Tell your sons to fail all the tests. Repeat all the course modules and still fail your test. At last they will send you become admin or storeman, and still you can fail the storeman test.

I have even heard people talk about shooting their own commanders if really it came to war and if these idiots put their men's lives at risk. Eg ask them to charge across a well defended enemy lines.

I used to pass by the death houses in Sago lane often. They were being carved out of a whole tree trunk which I assume is one of the reasons for the design.
