Old age home close down because not enough FT and locals dont want work there

The excuse cited was poor health, inability to find a successor and foreign workers?

Minimum turnover is 50,000 a month. A juicy business, no?

It is stated it move from the adjacent building next to the temple to it's present location, Tanah Merah. What I think, it is hiding the main problem that is cost of renting a place.

I bet to my last cent, the rental could easily exceeds $30,000 a month and the MSM/Owner is hiding this information away and conveniently blame on foreign workers. As usual.

Couldnt agree more with you. The devil in such failures are usually facility cost. I wonder why they choose to hide it.

The PAP is treating Spore as Spore Inc.

All the tax money they collect is going into bonuses, directorship fees & their foreign investments.

This is what happens when Sporeans blindly trust a single party:rolleyes: Sporeans must learn from the experiences of Taiwan, Malaysians ,....

he has built a armour ard him tat no1 is goin to investigate.

Old folks home are big business. In fact I believe there is a shortage of such homes. The average monthly charge for a ambulant inmate starts easily at $800 onwards and with non-ambulant ones it can go up to $1500 depending on the type of care needed. It is a highly profitable business don't believe look at Econ old folks home.

Combination of reasons why it is going to close

1. High facility cost
2. Fees collected not enough to cover.
3. Maximum Capacity of 52 reduced to 34 for workers to stay.
4. Locals don't want the job
5. Foreigners also don't want the job.

Health care is big business from hospitals to old aged homes, there is always a demand for health care workers. And can always see nurses working long hours due to shortage of manpower

Just curious, how would a FT whom does not speak Chinese, Chinese dialects, Tamil or Malay fit into this role?

You mean nven if the oldies can speak English, in their twilight years, probably suffering fro dementia they are suppose to put up with some strange pinoy, PRC, Kee leng FT accented English?

Why can't the nursing profession be paid more? We can probably host lesser of those money loosing events to pay our own Singaporean nurses more can't we?;)

They dun need to know the language to work, you ever seen how they bath those old folks. Line them up like factory assembly line and hose them down...

4. - this is the typical argument of greedy business owners. share the pie; pay your workers a decent wage. what is a decent wage? simply, would the boss himself take the job at that wage level?

the main problem is no.1 - high facility costs. the government and all their linked companies is the BIGGEST landlord in Singapore. IF they wanted to, they could act to reduce rents. but this will never happen as they are driven by profit, not the greater economic good of Singapore.

Nursing is one of the most high demand jobs, and also one of those with high turnovers.

If you start asking people what would you want to be when you grow up, many of them will list doctor, lawyer, police, teacher only a handful will say be a nurse.

http://www.staystaffed.com/nurse-retention/
And the nurse turnover rate is cyclical; many registered nurses leave the profession because of work-related stress, but the ensuing shortage only perpetuates the stress on remaining nurses and increases the subsequent nurse turnover rate.
===================================
People who become nurses are often not in this job because of money but many leave the job because of the schedules and also job stress. The high turnover and also shortage of nurses add on to this problem

if nurses were paid $60k/annum, we would have no shortage of nurses.
trying paying $18k/annum for banking and see how many people want to become bankers.

wanker bosses. stop blaming singaporean workers for being choosy when you pay them sub-par wages.

Boss pay banker so much is because they can generate A lots more income than what they are being paid.

As for nurses, basically you are a liability. You don generate income at all. So why should bosses pay so much just to retain nurses ?

Govt should step in to ensure there is no such thing happening. Unfortunately, the cost of running such facility require huge amount of money. Wage aside, the cost include rental, utilities , transport .... etc etc.

Singapore biggest cost in business are the utilities and the rental, both a cash cow for Singaporean government through (SLA and Singapore power) directly and indirectly under them.

So after a full circle, the things goes back to this greedy government ! ST will get instruction from Singkie PAP goverment to put the blame on Singapore. Singaporeans are choosy ..... this and that .... they can't take stress, they don want dirty job. This may sound logical in argument on paper. But it more then it meet the eye.

Singapore government do not want the citizen of Singapore to develop this critical thinking skills. Just as one newpaper article citing why Singaporean are shunning construction jobs etc etc ....... again , low wage cost is to blame. Singapore too pampered to get the job done. They will point to you , see the indian ,PRC and bangala they are hungrier then Singapore. Singaporean got no SPUR stuck in their hide. Lack the fire in the belly. etc etc ... it the fault of Singaporean again.

Truth is , why don they showcase how western 1st world nation solve this problem without using foreign workers. They pay them high pay. If you are staying in Singapore, with 1st class costing and expect Singaporean to stay afloat with 4rd world wages. Can we afford to ? Even a trip in feeder bus cost you a minimum S$0.71.That is public transport.

So, Singapore govt should step in and re consider the priorities. They want to make a lot of money from their own people or they want to purely govern this piece of land ? It the worst for the people when govt is running Singapore like a MNC.
