Man accused of 18 graft charges

AN UNEMPLOYED man was charged in court on Wednesday with corruptly giving bribes totalling $9,400 to two security supervisors to close an eye on his suspected vice-related activities at a hotel.

Wong Jing Ching alias Patrick Champion Wong, 40, allegedly gave a total of $7,600 to one Sazali Kassim, 31, near Landmark Village Hotel between April 2009 and May last year.

He is said to have abetted Mr Sazali in a conspiracy to give bribes of between $200 and $600 to the latter's colleague, Muhammad Farhan Osman, 23, in return for not reporting his suspected vice-related activities in the hotel to the management.

The five alleged incidents occurred between January and May last year.

Wong, who is out on bail, had been charged earlier with seven counts of living in part on the earnings of prostitutes, receiving three of the Uzbekistan women at Changi Airport, and managing a contact point for prostitution at the hotel in Victoria Street.

A pre-trial conference has been fixed for Monday.

SINGAPORE: A 39-year-old man, accused of living on the earnings of sex workers, has been charged with bribing a security supervisor attached to Landmark Village Hotel at Victoria Street.

Wong Jing Ching, who is unemployed, allegedly gave 31-year-old Sazali Kassim bribes totalling S$7,600 between April 2009 and May last year to refrain him from reporting about suspected vice-related activities within the hotel to its management.

Wong, who is also known as Patrick Champion Wong is also believed to have abetted Sazali between January and May, last year, to give bribes to another security supervisor attached to the hotel.

Sazali allegedly handed over S$1,800 to 23-year-old Muhammad Farhan Osman between March and May 2010 in exchange for the same favour.

Wong, who is represented by lawyer, Ravinderpal Singh, had earlier been charged with living on the earnings of three prostitutes from Uzbekistan in April and May last year.

His pre-trial conference will be held on January 17.

If convicted of bribery, Wong can be jailed up to five years and fined a maximum of S$100,000 for each charge.

Taekwondo champ faces vice-related and bribery charges

HE WAS the winner of Singapore's first taekwondo gold medal, at the 1993 SEA Games.

Now, Wong Jing Ching, 39, is in the news again, this time for 18 charges related to corruption and seven charges for vice-related offences under the Women's Charter.

Wong, also known as Patrick Champion Wong, was 22 when he triumphed in the flyweight category of the taekwondo competition at Yishun Sports Hall.

At that time, the athlete, who quit school at 17 to train full-time, had said with tears rolling down his cheeks: 'At last, I have it. This is what I've been after for the last four years. I did it, I did it.' Now, he faces a different fight.

Last June, he first appeared in the district court on a single charge of knowingly living in part on the earnings of a 21-year-old Uzbekistani prostitute at Landmark Village Hotel, formerly known as Golden Landmark Hotel, from May 4 to 30.

He subsequently faced six more charges. Two are for living on the earnings of two teen prostitutes, also from Uzbekistan, from end-April to May 31 last year.

He was also accused of receiving the three women at Changi Airport, knowing that they had been procured for prostitution, as well as managing a contact point for prostitutes between April 29 and June 2 last year.

This is a sad day/event for locals and local sports.

While these foreign mecenaries in table tennis, swimming ect2 are raking in the millions , a local sports champion is unemployed at 39 and has to resort to pimping for a living.

The govt is spending millions on foreigners while locals (including former gold medal winners in SEA Games) are unable to make a living.

The 154 has done a poor job in not finding out more about what jobs he has been doing and what compel him to such end.
Has his job been stolen by a foreigner?
What are we serving NS/Reservist and representing the country for?-so that foreigners with fake qualifications can come in to rob us of our livelihood, our children's places in schools/University and our public housing?

really sad how he chose to make a living. I guess teaching TKD couldn't give him decent wages. This will be another reason why parents will tell their children to focus on getting a degree and not on sports.
In SG, there really is very minimal reward/pathways for Sportsmen/women. The only person I know that ended up well is JAWslin Yeo, the MP!

Both culprits were just unlucky. Such "working relationships" are very common in the hotel industry. With their low pay, not many SOs will be able to resist that temptation.

Along the Havelock Rd stretch, there are at least 2 hotels enjoying such a partnership. If we refer to the lower end hotels, there exist many such 'special relationships'. It is whether you get caught and exposed.

Yes hotels like the Strand and Hotel Grand Central where many pimps operated. Even hotel 81 in the red light districts close both eyes. But there its the staff rather than the security guard (if any)

Not aware of Katong Park. The other two mentioned are well-known. Even Pan Pacific is not spared. Uzbekistan gals were there. Same for Lion City Hotel. New Park at Kitchener, Novotel Orchid all involved. I even met an ex-minister at Novotel. He used the same OKT as yours truly!
