The government is totally confused as to what to do ...it screwed up big time.

This is the first time that I have seen a business operating a temple for worship.

Very ridiculous indeed for business to run temple. A business is for profit, temple is non-profit. So difficult for PAP to understand the vital difference? Some more allow a foreign business with unknown origins to run temple is ultra ridiculous and very dangerous.

You are right. The govt should have done a lot more soft sell and persuasion to get the population to accept columbaria in the heartlands before bundling them up into BTOs. Thats the trouble with this govt. always oversight, no foresight, always expecting that people will see their point just because they have the "bestest and brightest" in civil service. Whole cabinet full of "geniuses" but not a single one with EQ.

Next thing is, they dont make disclosures of such material facts and always end up fighting backlashes and rearguard actions. Too proud with a supersized ego that they cannot apologise, but stick to their guns. No wonder they have no respect from the people now.

The PAP government is changing the topic - the issue is why did the government not reveal that a columbarium would be built so that purchasers of pigeon holes were made aware of that fact?

Yes, Sometime between 2002 and 2003. HDB did not impose any cap on the amount of compensation for those who were retrenched. At that time, the standard practice in the public sector was a cap of one month for every two years in service subject to a maximum of 25 months. But HDB totally ignored this and paid those retrenched one month for every year in service without any cap. The greater joke is that majority of those retrenched simply reported for work the next day with the new company Surbana seating in the same office with the same work desk and telephone and same pay!!!

THe HDB's manner of compensation was not known to the public till later when PSA also retrenched it staff, a cap was imposed and this led to a huge outcry of unfairness among those retrenched pointing to HDB's case. Only then did the MOM came out with a law to impose a cap by which then the HDB retrenched already had a huge windfall while still gainfully employed.

The margin of victory in the last GE by Lampar Min was just over 4,000 votes. or around 16%. After the Tapei Grassroot retreat cum free taxpayer holiday and now this columbarium crap, his 4,000 vote lead is all but gone. I suggest Roy to come to Sengkang West as an independent candidate, and for the other oppo parties to stay out and give the seat to Roy. He will win in a landslide over Lampar Min.

KOH CHOONG YONG (WP) 10,591 (41.89% of the vote)
LAM PIN MIN (PAP) 14,689 (58.11% of the vote)

As your own stats show, LPM did badly because he was up against a WP candidate, a party whose style you may disagree with but nevertheless a party that has won over more PAP voters than other opposition parties. Roy wins over only the hardcore opposition supporters and independents have never done well.

The winning margin is not small but given this episode, and the change in the mood among the electorate, a WP candidate may just turn it around. And after PE, I don't think a multicornered fight matters much.

Dr Lam told me that it is absolutely a Chinese temple. The God that they are worshipping is 财神爷, the God of Fortune. This God is very special, even if you pray and believe in him, you are totally free to concurrently believe in as many other religions as you wish. Also, any entity can believe in him, hence it is OK for a commercial entity to run a temple to worship him.
