Obama Prefers to Speak in Japan...

SG was not an official full state visit, per say and if the Fort Hood shooting had not happened , he would have had a full two days in Singapore and APEC. As it is diplomats all over the world regard APEC as " A Perfect Excuse to Chat " The Bi Lats are more important than the hosts, and similarly the hosts Foreign/ State Ministry find the bi lats more important than the hosting of the actual summit and the perfunctory photo op.

It still does not answer the question why he cancels his keynote speech which was scheduled to be delivered in APEC and instead, he delivered a keynote speech in Japan right before he come down to Singapore for APEC.

Last night just watched the TV news channel showing all apec leaders taking group photo with the not so nice costume.

Unsurprisingly saw ah loong stood beside obama.

However the moment all the flashes start going off, notice obama right away turn away from ah loong and headed to another chap next to him. Leaving ah loong smiling sillily at himself.

Can see obama look and felt very awkward next to ah loong.

Just days before this, lao goh still talk big that as a small nation, sg has great influence to the world.

While nobody say a small cuntry has to be inferior, but why a small cuntry need to act like a big cuntry? It's just like a small cunt but act like a BiG CunT. Why can't papee just be themselves?

Well, good that he made such changes but why the change?

I mean if in actual fact, he could possibly make it earlier for APEC, why did he hold it back earlier? I am just puzzled. There is an important regional meeting APEC in Singapore but he chose to fly to Japan and gave his speech there while declining to speak in Singapore earlier. It really sounds strange and irrational for any seasoned politician. It would be more important and impactful to speak to 20 leaders in APEC instead of in Japan.

I think you are reading too much into this. If OBAMA really wants to show his 'dislike/discontent' about SG, he could well be very straight forward and open. SG is no CHINA or JAPAN. It does not matter what he chose to do, cut short his trip to Japan, China or SG, a lot of speculations would fly high and wide.

Unless there are very important and valid reasons for such decision to be made, no world politician would have made such move. It is a lose-lose decision; a slap on the host of APEC while depriving himself of the more important audience of regional political leaders.

Obama is a US president, the domestic matters (especially high profile, military issues) always take high priority. If he skipped the military service and flew to Japan as scheduled, he would face a much bigger challenge than all APEC issues combined.

This sudden change of schedule doesn't change the fact that the previous decisions were made in such a way to avoid real engagement in APEC.

Lets not kid ourselves, without US, APEC is an orgarnisation without power/influence. US knows that, all APEC members know that. Lets be grateful that Obama still 'gives face' to stop by here and make an appearance.

I would consider such last minute change as an attempt to salvage whatever is left of relationship. It is a face saving gesture for the host and participants of APEC.

There could be many issues at hand that is not meant for public to know and your negative assumption of Obama and what he is doing is not helpful.

obama is a well-informed man, he understand what is called despicable .

And it seems well-read too. He was heard quoting Mencius's "山径之蹊间，介然用之而成路，为间不用，则茅塞之矣" few months back during the US-China talks.

And this phrase he used in his speech in Japan "power does not need to be a zero-sum game, and nations need not fear the success of another - 不要以小人之心，度君子之腹" also reflects this eloquence.

So he does seem to comprehend eastern philosophy.
