As long as Asia overtly focus on Obama's race, and America's fascination with race, Asia will remain in the grip of the race problem ourselves. Because all of this focusing, we distract ourselves from our own racial issues.

I mean, as long as our kitchen is not clean, it gives us no reason to criticise America for their dirty kitchen. At least some Americans are starting to clean up; we are not.

And on your final point, while you have valid reasons in believing so, I also believe that it can be a mirage. There's little doubt that some chinese will doubt ever a Malay can ever be PM of Singapore- for whatever reasons. But as long as the PM seat is under Lee control, there's little hope for a Malay to become a real PM with a real mandate.

I was watching a re-run of House last night - the one with the black senator who was mis-diagnosed with aids and has presidential ambitions (http://www.tv.com/house/role-model/episode/402734/recap.html?tag=overview;recap).

You have confused communism with socialism, just like the McCain supporters mislead by the GOP. Communism is a government model - one great leader and everyone else is 'equal'. Socialism is a social and economic model tweaked to make sure everyone has a chance in life, with the state giving you a leg up with you're born in a poor family or handicapped etc. The most advanced countries in the world are somewhat socialist, but their governments are fully democratic.

Oh to think that race is nonexistant is of course a fallacy. There are 56 Million Registered Voters who are no doubt extremely angry - and there will be incidents. But the point is finally a critical mass of registered voters have not seen Obama as a black man, but as someone who ran a good campaign and gained trust. oh, and by the way, he is black. this is forever changed race relations worldwide.

Barack Obama is not stupid. White conservatives in the south, and in pockets around the States are lashing out but there are many supporters and voters of Obama who know how to stand by their candidate.

The upside is that if Obama succeeds as President by the end of his term, and maybe his second term, white people in the South will understand that their fears about blacks are misplaced.

I mean you are talking about people who are very insular and has never had much need of a passport. Their holidays are usually within the country itself, or even within the region they live in itself, and they even view Canadians and Mexicans as suspects. So to lash out against a non-white shouldn't be unexpected.

Its all part of the ulterior motive of Uncle Sam. They are eyeing South Africa now because of its rich minerals and putting a black man as a president will put them in better light in the eyes of the Africans.
