<!-- end left side bar --> <!-- story content : start --> THE finance head of the mechanical engineering department cheated the National University of Singapore (NUS) of nearly $69,000 between 2003 and 2006. Peggy Ang Seow Ling cooked up 54 false claims for expenses on catering services and purchases of computer equipment, masks, gloves and stationery. The 37-year-old was jailed for eight months by a district court on Monday. She pleaded guilty last month. Her cheating ways only came to light in October 2006 when some of the invoices she had submitted were found to be fake. Asking for a light sentence, her lawyer said that Ang needed the money to pay for a liver operation for her 61-year-old mother in 2006. But Deputy Public Prosecutor Adrian Ooi pointed out that the offences started in 2003 and the amount involved was large.
