N. Korea Says It Is Ready to 'Blow Up' U.S.

Monday, March 08, 2010

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea's army said Monday it is ready to "blow up" South Korea and the U.S., hours after the allies kicked off annual military drills that Pyongyang has slammed as a rehearsal for attack.

South Korea and the U.S. — which normally dismiss such threats as rhetoric — began 11 days of drills across South Korea on Monday morning to rehearse how the U.S. would deploy in time of emergency on the Korean peninsula.

The U.S. and South Korea argue the drills — which include live firing by U.S. Marines, aerial attack drills and urban warfare training — are purely defensive. North Korea claims they amount to attack preparations and has demanded they be canceled.

The North's People's Army issued a statement Monday, warning the drills created a tense situation and that its troops are "fully ready" to "blow up" the allies once the order is issued.

The North also put all its soldiers and reservists on high alert to "mercilessly crush the aggressors" should they encroach upon the North's territory even slightly, said the statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency.

The communist country has issued similar rhetoric in the days leading up the drills. On Sunday, it said it would bolster its nuclear capability and break off dialogue with the U.S. in response to the drills.

South Korea's military has been closely monitoring Pyongyang's maneuvers but hasn't seen any signs of suspicious activities by North Korean troops, Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff said earlier Monday.

"We see it as (North Korea's) stereotype denouncement," Defense Ministry spokesman Won Tae-jae told reporters.

About 20 anti-U.S. activists held a peaceful protest near a joint drill command center south of Seoul on Monday, chanting slogans such as "Stop war rehearsal."

About 18,000 American soldiers and an undisclosed number of South Korean troops are taking part in the drills, dubbed Key Resolve and Foal Eagle, according to U.S. and South Korean militaries.

The training comes as the U.S. and other regional powers are pushing for the North to rejoin international disarmament talks on ending its atomic weapons program in return for aid. The North quit the six-nation weapons talks and conducted its second nuclear test last year, drawing tighter U.N. sanctions.

The North has demanded a lifting of the sanctions and peace talks with the U.S. on formally ending the Korean War before it returns to the negotiations. The U.S. and South Korea have responded that the North must first return to the disarmament talks and make progress on denuclearization.

The U.S. stations about 28,500 troops in South Korea.

I hope it escalates to war. Someone ought to
do something about Kim.

Anyway, the stock markets need a boost in a
short war so that defence industries get a shot
in the arm.

I would like to see North Korea do this.

1st strike from the north and China wont back them this time, we could see the end of the korean people.

What's that? Medics or cooks?

North Korea has 1m regulars and 5m reservists. If PRC backs NK again in any war, the world may see a 10m-army for the first time, with nukes of their own.

From my own thinking, I really don't think USA have any business in South Korea.

It's really politically motivated that USA put themselves at the FIBA line between North & South Korea.

The USA were coming into South Korea in the pretext of aiding South Korea Democracy, and to curb "Communism".

This is a perfect excuse for them to eliminate and set up a base of operations just next to China.

Remember the history, USA + 7 other european countries combined forces to invade China, and have annexed many parts of China... which have leave many traces till today.

Americans are really not so kind hearted... countries should have their own soverign decisions...

Have anyone in this forum thought about this?

What if China or USA came to Singapore, and always deter Singapore from having advanced weaponry to protect itself?

Although I do not necessarily agree with KIM's policies, however, a Soverign Nation should have their own decisions. Do not have to enforce any of their "DEMOCRACY" rulings on others.

So, if war happens, many parties would be invovled.

USA, KOREAN (south), North Koreans, and most likely CHINA.

China would involved themselves to this war, if it erupts because this is considered as national security of China.

For example, if Singapore were to have war with say, Malaysia, and let's say Malaysia managed to win, and they would have some control of the land of Singapore, allowing them to put military installations into Singapore.

Likewise, if USA + South Korea Wins, this gives USA the right to install a huge military installation into the North Korea, in the name of liberation.

And when you check the map of North Korea, it's just connecting to the China's Jilin & Liao Ning Provinces.

Now imagine when USA wins... what happens.

USA would be just next door of China, and USA could install their ICBMs, and they could target ANYWHERE of CHINA within 2 to 5 hours of launching.

So, when North Korea really fight, and USA + South Korea retaliate, China will ensure that USA do not win...

That's one of the key reasons why China is so protective over Tibet, and do not allow independence. In the name of national security.

By the way, I don't think there will be any war arising, as long as USA+South Korea stand down... it's all psychological warfare.

What happen if suddenly 1 bobo shooter miss fire and shoot a round into North Korea? Then that round suay suay hit and kill a North Korean canon folder. Will North Korea attack?

If wars were so easy to start, we would already see world war 3 by now.

What I can think of is perhaps the south koreans and USA troopers were briefed that they should not shoot facing north for any reason...

And for those who disobeyed, and shot north, these would be handed over to the North to answer for their actions.

Anyways, even if one men die out of accident from South Korea, that action itself is simply not enough to start a all out war.

Politics always, talk first.

When all conceivable ways of talks are not workable, then there is war....

Everyone knows that war is disruptive to both nations invovled.

Make Love, NOT WAR.

USA is already next door to PRC with ICBMs capable of hitting anywhere in PRC within 2 or 3 hours. PRC could beat whole whole ROC 3m-army on mainland until half of them dead and the other half escaped to to Taiwan. But PRC can't reclaim Taiwan even just a few miles offshore. The reason is of course US presence. PRC is no match for USA in naval and aerial warfare required for offshore invasion. North Korea is different. It's land adjoining PRC. USA can't win. China's foreign war record was very bad during the Qing Dynasty and ROC. But it's borderland war record during PRC is practically perfect.

Well said.

The only funny thing is even with almost 30 years of economic advancement, China's Navy & Aerial Technology is not as advanced as USA's?

I think China's Technologist are really catching up... I guess it's just a matter of time, when China could match up or even exceed western technologist.

The Qing Dynasty were corrupted, that's why causing it to be invaded, easily.

This resulted in the need for a Revolution by Mr. Sun Yat Sun.

And leading it to Communism introduction by Chairman Mao.

And yes, during the Korean War in the 1950s, there is no way the americans could over-run the North Koreans with China's help.

The american's presence in South Korea has been an eye sore to China.

Anyways, there is NO WAY USA could invade China through North Korea.

USA already is suffering economic duldroms, and it'll accelerate their bankruptcy when they have another all out war... USA cannot afford to have any war now....

The naval and amphibious superiority of USA were very obvious during the 1950 Korean War. SK/USA was practically in full retreat in the face of NK/PRC tidal land attacks until even Seoul was overran. Without the Inchon landing to outflank, brace up and cut off NK/PRC supply lines, there'd be no South Korea today. The Vietnamese learned that lesson well and beat off USA well. There's no South Vietnam today.

Thanks Bro for the long explanation. All the time I thought the US was like Mother Theresa helping the needy. Based on the above, can I assume that PAP is not there for the people but for themselves and that we work in companies to earn income to buy things such as house, car, food and clothing.

All the time I thought that people work for companies to help them become profitable.

.....

Hey, when I was young, I too thought that USA is the saviour of the world.

Hey, when I was young, I was too conditioned to think that PAP is doing for the best interest of the people (which was the case for the 70s till end of 90s)

However, after spending some time on earth, and thanks to free internet information (some junk, some jewels), and reflecting these information with my experience, and talking with others...

I have formed my own opinions and perspective towards the world...

USA is not Mother Theresa, and it's global domination plans is simply getting obvious...

Likewise PAP just want to ensure that the cost of labour is low enough to produce enough products and services that are competitive around the world, and region.

Is it really right or wrong? What I know is whoever wins the war is always right... whoever is voted into office is always in control...
