No U-turn in foreigner policy: SM Goh insist

In Bahrain, SM Goh explained that Singapore needed to be open to foreign workers in the past to fuel its rapid growth.

"Employers were crying for workers"

"Demand for Good and service were high"

"I think the strategy is correct so far as the opposition is concern"

even as opposition zeroes in on these policies the PAP must be able to defend them ... if opposition has a better solution ?....

"if you criticize with no alternative solution oe without giving the full facts and the context it is our job to point out that you are giving the wrong information, giving figures out of context "

There is a big difference between shortage of workers and replacing locals with cheaper foreign workers. The locals in Dubai, Bahrain etc are not replaced.

Don't accept silly arguments like that.

But seriously, the question need be asked, where are the protesting cries of the displaced Singaporeans? Where are the jobless meandering in search? Is the PAP that confident and arrogant if indeed they had created such a situation? Is is not a forgone conclusion that 66.6 will still maintain the staus quo?

The 66.6% constitutes mainly of "members", whose lifeline is connected to the 'tree of life' [MIW's], just like the movie AVATARS.

Unlike the people in Avatars, these 66.6%, are too blind to see, to deaf to hear, too meek to speak, & have no balls ( both males & females) to act!.

That is why the status quo, could be maintained...

Don't understand is, why the country politician need to 'spout' words of wisdom in another country, explaining what is happening back home..

it is like the joke about the plane is burning, the announcement said "attention all passengers, if you look to the right, you can see the engines are burning, if you look to the left, you can see me in a dingy, don't worry, I am going to get help....

this is exactly what is happening...but the trouble is, the joke is not on them...but the JOKE IS ON US...

By his answers, even he seemed to be stunned by the numbers of foreign workers in our midst. As if they all came only last night. So where was he and what was he doing all these while? In a cave? Sleeping? Every Minister interviewed nowadays appeared to look stunned or playing dumb. Like MBT - he was taken aback by the demand in HDB flats and the rise in prices. Like WKS - he was taken aback by the escape of MSK. Like Yaacob - the flooding was a freak event, a once in 50 years event. Like MM, who collects millions of dollars in pay a year, and who stays in the Istana free, how was he to know what's affordable to the fresh grad, to the one who is starting out on his career or family? Who else is blur next? A sotong Cabinet, that's what.

Great observation. Their comments do indicate that. I did not realise it until you tied it together.

Answer - We don't need rapid growth at the expenses of Singaporeans (Singaporeans losing job to FTs and higher cost of living). Why don't you show us the figures since you are the Gov't and are in control of all these statistics?
(1) % of Singaporeans Citizen that are unemployed v.s % of Foreigners/PRs
(2) % of Singaporeans Citizen whose salary have not increased despite the increase in cost of living.
(3) Breakdown of Singaporean/FTs's job classification, e.g. how many people are cleaners, receptionist, middle managers etc
(4) % of Singaporean/FTs living in what property, their age and whether they have children and married with how many years, etc
If you don't have these figures, does this means that you have not considered this?

If the rental of the land is not so expensive, there would not be a need to have cheap labour to suppress the wages, which is affecting all sinkees.

Problem is the wages are not keeping up with cost of housing and cheap labour is needed to feed the ever rising wages of the MINISTARS.

No U turn? Very bravado talk. Very face saving. Stubborn as ever, trying hard to appear resolute. A memo likely has been sent out to all govt ministries to crank up the spin machines. Something positive abt the govt everyday, I know how it works, cos I was in it before. Note that survey all of a sudden, 84% thinks the govt is good? All that Ponggol waterway projects? All that news abt Circle line stations opening, and then forgotten after the elections, to be revived another year or two later? Don't soak it up anymore!

"if you criticize with no alternative solution....

Asking for solutions when they are drawing astronomical salaries? How about giving me half of his salary? I will then offer them my solution.
