Investigations into Circle Line disruption to focus on 2 areas
A power fault disrupted train services on all 16 stations on the Circle Line on Tuesday morning
SINGAPORE: Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said he understands the frustrations of Singaporeans affected by the recent disruption of MRT service on the Circle Line.
Mr Lui was speaking to reporters at the sidelines of an aviation event on Thursday morning.
He has asked for investigations into the matter to be focused on two aspects - SMRT's preventive and maintenance framework and how the cause of the disruption can be more speedily identified and isolated.
Mr Lui said the second aspect is crucial.
With the opening of stages 4 and 5 of the Circle Line on October 8, any disruption of the same nature can potentially affect more commuters.
The disruption on September 20 due to a power fault had affected nearly 27,000 commuters during the morning rush hour.
On whether SMRT will be penalised for the breakdown, Mr Lui said it is still too early to tell as investigations are still ongoing.
