[h=2]# Ngiam Tong Dow on Single-vs-Multi Party System, and Dependence on MNCs[/h]
1) Mr Ngiam was also asked about his thoughts on a one-party system versus a multi-party system.
In response, Mr Ngiam cited the ancient cities of Sparta and Athens. "Sparta was efficient and disciplined, but in the end, it failed, because such a state is very brutal, whereas Athens was very chaotic, argumentative, messy, but they survived," he said.
2) Mr Ngiam reiterated that Singapore "cannot depend on (multi-national corporations) forever".
Quoted comment on Mr Ngiam remark:
This has been citied by oppositions and supporters for decades, ie on Govt forgoing of SMEs for MNCs and GLCs. It was only of recent years that PAP learnt that and started promoting startups.
'Over-Dependence' on Foreign investment is hallmark of Developing countries.
The failure to ditch it and progress beyond is the failure of a Developed nation.
'Foreign investment' has become so entrenched in Spore that it's become a standard excuse and reason for many of govt economic policies.
In reality, the 2 casinos represented the ultimate failure of this Govt to bring Spore from manufacturing to knowledge-based.
Note these had been similarly echoed in SDP/Tan JS in GE2011 and his economic proposal.
Has blind Pap supporters woken up?
