[KUALA LUMPUR] Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Friday he and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak had agreed to elevate ties to a "comprehensive strategic partnership", aiming to boost military cooperation and nearly triple two-way trade to US$160 billion by 2017.
The Chinese and Malaysian leaders spoke soon after US President Barack Obama cancelled a week-long tour of four Asian nations due to the US government shutdown.
Mr Najib said he agreed with Xi, who is visiting Malaysia ahead the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Indonesia, to encourage more joint military exercises and visits between the nations.
China is already Malaysia's largest trading partner, with two-way trade last year totalling 181 billion ringgit (US$57 billion). - Reuters

[KUALA LUMPUR] Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, the world's second-largest telecommunications equipment maker, and Malaysian state investor Khazanah Nasional, will set up a data hosting and logistics centre in southern Malaysia to serve the Chinese firm's regional customers, both firms said on Friday.
The centre will be located in the Iskandar region, a short distance from Singapore, and cover a combined office and warehouse space of 90,000 square feet, the companies said in a statement.
The companies did not disclose a value for the project, but said the centre will create 600 new jobs. The agreement was signed as Chinese President Xi Jinping made his first official visit to Malaysia this week. - Reuters

Even as the dust settles on the recent takeover of Focal Aims Holdings Bhd by Eco World Development Holdings Sdn Bhd, there is talk the newly-merged entity is eyeing another listed property developer, UOA Development Bhd. The deal, if it materialises, could see the emergence of a mega property company with a gross development (GDV) value of at least RM45 bil.
One of the new shareholders of Focal Aims is Liew Tian Xiong, son of SP Setia founder and managing director Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin. The elder Liew is said to be leaving SP Setia in 2015 and will make Focal Aims his new listed vehicle. The potential deal with UOA could be another piece in the puzzle of Liew’s bigger plan as he readies himself to exit SP Setia.

Actually I do not think so especially if the logistic hub requires a large area. Singapore should target industry or jobs that needs little space but employs highly skill people.

It won't be long before the Sunway Group throws in its lot with Johor in the state’s transformation into a national hub for theme and amusement parks.
Already an established player in theme park development, Sunway currently operates two popular theme parks in the country – Sunway Lagoon Theme Park and Lost World of Tambun.
Now, t he Sunway Group has plans to introduce its successful theme park business to Johor by developing the 729ha (1,800 acres) it owns in Pendas and Medini, in Iskandar Malaysia.
Since the opening of its first theme park over two decades ago, Sunway’s theme parks have welcomed more than 20 million local and foreign visitors. The number of visitors to Sunway Lagoon hit the one million mark in 2010 and grew by a fifth to 1.2 million in 2012; whereas Lost World of Tambun saw a jump in visitor numbers from 69,944 in 2004 to 549,727 in 2012.
In a recent interview with FocusM, Sarena Cheah, joint managing director of the property development division, group strategy and corporate development, was asked how the group plans to position the theme park in Johor, given the numerous parks planned in the state as well those in Singapore. She says there are still details to be finalised but it is highly likely the park will have “water” and “nature” themes.
“Our theme park in Sunway [the Resort City] is water-based. In Ipoh, it is tucked among the limestone caves. The activities are adventure-based and are centred on water. [Being] water-based is consistent throughout [our parks]. So in Johor it will also be water-based.
