New cluster of prisons opens. IMH no more space?

Changi Prison Complex increased its capacity to 11,000 when it officially launched Cluster B. Each accommodation area, known as a housing unit, comprises 10 cells on two floors and opens to a common dayroom area.

State-of-the-art integrated security systems enable staff to monitor and control all activities in the cluster from control centres. Cells are behind blue doors and no photography is allowed inside.

The prison perimeter is protected by an intelligent video motion system that allows for instant detection of intrusions.

At the crack of dawn, one of the several heavily-guarded convoys transporting inmates to their new home, travels past Toa Payoh. Inmates were transferred from Queenstown Remand Prison, Sembawang Drug Rehabilitation Centre (DRC), Khalsa Crescent DRC, Selarang Park DRC and Tanah Merah Prison.
