Resolution of stalled upgrading works at Rivervale Plaza one key priority: DPM Teo

SINGAPORE -


Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean has said that one of the priorities he wants to tackle for Punggol East residents is the resolution of upgrading works at Rivervale Plaza.

Works there have been delayed because the contractor had gone bust.

Mr Teo, who is also the anchor minister for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC, was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a community event today.

The Deepavali celebration is the second community event Mr Teo attended over the weekend, following the resignation of Punggol East MP Michael Palmer over an extramarital affair.


[B]Mr Teo noted that one of the concerns of residents is the upgrading works at Rivervale.[/B]


He said his team of MPs will continue discussions, started by Mr Palmer, with the Housing and Development Board, residents and shop owners, to resolve the problem.

Mayor Teo Ser Luck has been appointed caretaker MP for Punggol East.

Mr Teo Chee Hean said: "We've always looked after the residents (of Punggol East) as a larger Pasir Ris-Punggol family. So I know quite a lot of the grassroots leaders here. I've been here many times also, with Mr Teo Ser Luck as well. So we will continue looking after residents."

DPM Teo has said he will attend the ward's Meet-the-People session on Monday night.

A number of tenants at Rivervale Plaza (pictured) in Sengkang have lost customers due to the inconvenience caused by the mall’s unfinished renovation, reported The Straits Times.

“(The) HDB recently informed me the upgrading works at Rivervale Plaza will only be completed in mid-2013. The main contractor is believed to have run into some cash-flow problems and therefore abandoned the project,” said Michael Palmer, MP for Punggol East.

Technobuilt Construction & Engineering, the project’s contractor, stopped works at the mall over a month ago due to cash-flow issues. As a result, many tenants have complained about falling profits, as customers started patronising the nearby Compass Point and Rivervale Mall more often, instead of Rivervale Plaza.

The HDB said the renovation was supposed to expand the mall’s existing space and add more shops, kiosks, toilets and an escalator.


Mr Palmer has already asked the HDB to give tenants a 30 percent rental rebate until the end of 2012 and increase the rebate to 40 percent from January next year. The housing board will also introduce a gift redemption programme during weekends to attract shoppers back to the mall and will also install additional fans along the walkway.


Mr Palmer said “about three-quarters of the work is done” and it will take three months for “calling and awarding a re-tender to finish the project”.

Actually it's a father and son running the show and all others are clowns hoping to score brownie points, so that eithier father ( which I doubt so in the state he is in ) or son will reward these clowns with more imperial gifts and have more serfs to serve them .

basically the "damages" inflicted by this Kock Up Contractor is Far Worst

than those done by the Striking SMRT Drivers .


The Contractor must Answer for it :(

to get the project Company must tender the Lowest in order to get the project,
some of this project are money loosing big time, that's why contractors go bust!!!

Bid high they don't get! Bid low they died!
