Mystery illness: Her swollen legs release foul-smelling pus <!-- TITLE : end--> </td></tr> <tr><td colspan="3" height="15">
</td> </tr> <tr><td colspan="3" class="bodytext_10pt"> <!-- CONTENT : start --> At first sight, her rotting legs look like an elephant's - large, swollen and wrinkled up. Pus constantly flows from them, giving out a foul smell, sometimes attracting houseflies. This is the unknown condition that a woman living in Chinatown is currently suffering from, reported Shin Min Daily News. When a reporter met with Sim Siew Ying, she noticed that the 50-something woman's gait was slow and clumsy and that she needed an umbrella to assist her in walking. It took Madam Sim a few minutes before she could walk from her front door to a seat placed directly outside her flat. The reporter noticed that pus had also dried up to form a yellow crust which wrapped around her legs. Fresh pus also repeatedly dripped on the floor. The smell that surrounded her legs made one felt like throwing up, wrote the reporter.
Madam Sim told Shin Min that she first suffered wounds on her legs three months ago when she fell down. At that time, the wounds only festered slightly. Over time, they deteriorated to her current condition. She also said that her brother - who is currently supporting both Madam Sim and her sister - did bring her to a hospital for treatment where she was warded for three weeks. "When I was hospitalised, all the doctor did was to put me on an intravenous drip. I would rather just have my legs rot at home than to have them rot in the hospital. So I insisted on a discharge," she said. Two days ago, Madam Sim hurt her forehead and her eyes, causing them to swell up. She said that her brother would visit them every month to provide them with money for household expenses, but she goes out of her way to avoid him. "I don't want my brother to know about my condition. So every time when he comes, I will walk out to the nearest mall to hide from him. If he sees me like that, he will force me to see a doctor," she said.
