Hi JW5,
I fully understand where you are coming from but at the same time, I would urge people to have an open mind. There are no perfect human beings in this world. And that is the fundamental reason why we need Democracy of Checks and Balances. We should also use the same standards to view both ruling party as well as opposition parties.
As I have explained to Ron Ron who is always pretend to be fair but in fact, he has lots of double standards, if you look at it in a good perspective, Chris case is really no big deal. On the micro side, if even opposition member like me could accept some imperfections on PAP ministers as in accepting some insignificant conviction of OSA because we know it was due to some small oversight, Chris case is really a non issue politically.
Furthermore, on the bigger picture, comparing to PAP government which has allowed jackpot machines to flood clubs like Safra, NTUC, private clubs and even Civil Service club or worse, allowing the two casino resorts to be built on our land, Chris little problem here is seriously no big deal.
But you are right, Singapore's political landscape is never fair. The media may tend to make a devil out of some insignificant flaws on opposition while keeping both eyes and ears closed on the ruling party's bigger role in allowing gambling machines and casinos to be built. Or even worse, trumpet about the GOOD out of the ILLs of building these casinos....
Well, we will deal with the political perspective in time to come, with regards to this issue.

It may settle the case within your party and it may settle the legal issue, but it certainly will not settle the political situation.
Look at Steve's case, it was certainly not illegal in any sense, there was no issue with the party and probably not an issue with voters like myself, but was there a political repercussion?
We can't be certain, but you could argue that there was. If there was indeed a political repercussion, I think it would be very unfair, but since when was politics in SG fair? I happen to think Steve is one of the brightest and most eloquent opposition politicians to have emerged, but how has he fared with the voters?
It's easy to declare that "it's not an issue or that settles the case", but in this highly unfair political environment, the case is certainly not that easily "settled".
It takes a certain type of person to understand what the pap is and what the opposition politicians are or are trying to be. You are fortunate to be discusssing things with some of these people in this forum, but unfortunately, we make up the minority.
