I started to earn good salaries in my late 20s to mid 30s.
Unfortunately I wasn't a wise men then and didn't have the habit of saving.
I spent all my good incomes with cars, travels, and treating people unnecessarily. The thought of retirement planning never crossed my mind.

The day when I was terminated from my good income job due to some greedy crimes committed, it was a wakeup call for me.
But I was able to get another job within 2 months, at a 40% cut. At that time the industry I worked in started the outsourcing trend, suppressing salaries.

From then onwards, I knew the importance of savings.
I started to be very careful of my expenditures and I saved about 80% of my salary every month.
I also realised I was not going to be a slave for later part of my life I.e 55 onwards. This thought made me the discipline to save more and more, sometimes even 90% of it. With aws and perf bonus 100%.of it.

I carried the same mindset for the next 20 years.
Last year when I looked at my bank account, I decided I was almost ready.
But before I threw the towel, I started to do my researches on all the means to exploit pap for any extra incomes being an unemployed jlb.
At the same time, I had already fully commissioned my soccer bettings secret code.
I'm not a greedy person, so I set a target that is achievable, and uat it for a few months.
I was then ready to take the plunge and I threw the towel to much astonishment from all my peers. They thought I striked Toto and was envying me even upto today.

I'm now a financially free person and the relieve of not requiring to Leeport to anyone is the best feeling I ever had, compared to the time of having high incomes driving cars.

For most middle-aged men, they got 4 major expenses. They have to give up (or significantly reduce) one of it to be financially-sound.

1. Condo (or Private Housing)
2. Children Enrichment Classes
3. Car ownership
4. Multiple Leisure Travels per year

Giving up either of the above, will save us a few months of salaries.

Yes, we have to give up something for another thing.
Now I wouldn't want to forgo freedom for a more luxurious life.

We heard this story about a businessmen who worked very hard so that he can retire to have pursue his fishing hobby.

When he managed to do so, he realized that his worker at been fishing at the same jetty for years.

rightfully, if u married a good wife and you help out, you don't need a maid.

rightfully... ... but these days, even my female cousins and nieces all just study hard and work, can't even cook rice.

I am gratefully to several helpers who helped to care the seniors in my extended family.

It is also a move for me to be able to spend time with my loved ones in their golden years.

Whenever I need to travel for my medical appointments early in the morning, I felt so relieved that I do not have to squeeze with the crowd. During my working days, this was 1 of the worst feel I carried daily to work. Really stress!!! I'm grateful that I don't have to go through this torture anymore.

Life is short so I don't wish to live like a pauper. I have fully paid for my condo and car, and have enough set aside to retire at 55. However, my classmates who are no longer working by choice, warned that I may find retirement really boring and w/o purpose.

Everyone of us has different starting points in life, then some of us have different baggage.

Eg, I got to leave more money for one of my weaker child with issues.

in my industry, there are kind souls who accompany seniors to see doctors.

it is a mind-changing experience.

You lose to my ex mentor. She achieved financial freedom much earlier, beat her AMDK CEO to a puppy before she washed her hands in the Golden Bowl.

It is sad that my best friend has spent 1/2 his life looking after an aged aunt whose husband and only child are no longer alive. However, he found out that she is leaving her house and most of her life savings to an estranged granddaughter who is living overseas, and has never cared for that old lady.

I intend to buy or lease a proton car in Malaysia and to stay there for long time once I retire

The opposite is true.
Life is short thus we should not be wasting it to chase after luxuries.
Maybe your work is stressless with good income? Like pap ministers they wouldn't want to leetire.

Boredom is not in my equation.
There are far too many things to do as a freed person.
For now my priority is to take good care of my seniors and allocating other time to reap more from sg pool that requires brain cracking not simpler to a regular job. And spend the winnings on luxury once a while.

I salute your best friend. Not easy.

My friend did the same, cared for his aged single aunt and Tan Chuan Jin fucked him when he sought social assistance.

Yes, but she cheated family & leelatives monies to achieve that.
I wouldn't want to think of such a leetirement plan.
