SINGAPORE : A man who stole a statue of a deity at the senior citizens' corner of a void deck in Ang Mo Kio was fined S$1,000 in court on Monday.
Former cook Teow Kong Beng was at the altar in the senior citizens' corner to pray to the deity statue on April 12 at about 10am.
His friend, Siah Kang Yeo, was with him and told Teow that he has an affinity with the deity and wanted to take the statue home to pray.
Both men then removed the statue from the altar. Teow held onto a red plastic bag while Siah placed the statute in it.
The resident committee was alerted to the case after a neighbour called to inform that the statute was missing. The vice-chairman of the committee then checked the CCTV footage and saw Siah and Teow removing the statute.
The police was subsequently called in. Siah has already been fined in court for his role in the offence. - CNA /ls
