Japanese evergreen singers are the ancestors of Canto-pop. Half of canto-pop are copied from Japanese music and many HK singers got their inspiration from Japanese music. Half the early Hokkien songs are from Japanese Enka. Anita Mui grew up listening to Momoe Yamaguchi, Jacky Cheung has many songs of Anzhen-Chitai, Leslie Cheung has some songs from Momoe Yamaguchi as well.
My favorites include Shiji Tanimura, Southern All Stars, Chage and Aska, Misia... from the very old to the recent.
