maybe you misunderstood. Muslims are discouraged from drinking alcohol. but are forbidden from taking intoxicants. Now there would there be a separate verse for alcohol if its included as intoxicant. Intoxicant in my opinion are those addictive drugs.

'Malay' is a race, 'Muslim' is a religion, dickhead. Islam only came to the Malay Archipelago in the 15th century. Prior to that most Malays (those in the Malaya Peninsula, Riau Islands and Sumatra) were Hindus, with some Christian converts.

I've got a few Singaporean Malay friends who converted to Christianity upon marriage (one married a Catholic but became a free-thinker). Are they not Malay anymore? Or are they now (miraculously) Indian or Chinese or Ang Moh?
