The Moroccan-born mayor of Rotterdam has said Muslim immigrants who do not appreciate the way of life in Western civilisations can 'f*** off'.

Ahmed Aboutaleb, who arrived in the Netherlands aged 15, spoke out in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris last week.

Appearing on live television just hours after the shootings, Mayor Aboutaleb said Muslims who 'do not like freedom can pack your bags and leave'.

I want my children to know who they are and be in touch with their roots. We need to have own vernacular school to inculcate our own moral values and not lose our native language. After all we have 5000 years of civilization to draw on.

Rubbish. Look, we're talking about emigrating to liberal European countries, not some tinpot dictatorships that force the burqa and Sharia on you.

1. These liberal countries allow you to practise your religion and learn your native tongue, albeit not necessarily in their public schools. They largely allow you to practise your customs as long as they don't impinge on the freedoms of their people. No problem there.

2. When you're are a guest, a minority immigrant in a host country, you have to adopt some of their ways, e.g. lingua franca. If the official language and language of commerce is German, you jolly well learn the language and integrate. You're not going to the market and order your fruit in Arabic or Urdu and insist that the greengrocer understand you. You're not going to insist on having your TV broadcast in Bahasa or Tagalog. Or that your neighbours speak to you in Cantonese.

3. Laws: Every country has its own laws. You migrate to a new country, you obey their laws.

4. Do not impose your culture/customs/religious ethics on the host country. You're a guest; you have your space to practise your own religion and culture. Be thankful as a guest. It's the height of bad manners and arrogance to insists that the host majority adopt and convert to your ways.
