IN 1942, when Singapore was under Japanese occupation, Mr Yew Kian Chang, then in his 20s, was lined up with eight other young men.

A Japanese solder wielding a metre-long sword then beheaded the group one by one. Mr Yew was the last in line, but the blade did not go deep enough to kill him. Today, he still bears the scar at the back of his neck.

The 93-year-old may be the last person who can bear witness to the first-hand experience of the horrible massacre.

oh wow, this is so interesting.... he was so lucky... he is a hero... unlike some Ministers who defected to become a translator....

Remember those Sex slaves?

Historians say up to 200,000 young women, mostly from Korea but also from China, Indonesia, the Philippines and Taiwan, were forced to serve as sex slaves in Japanese army brothels.

Seek compensation from Japan embassy and Toyota.

He should have become a translator during the occupation.

Too late, LKY has told the Japanese SG will forgo all compensation in return for some investments on all SGreans behalf.

If I lived through a tragedy like that, I don't know if I will ever be able to forgive the Japanese. I wonder how he felt when he saw SG sucking up to the Japanese. Hopefully, he has lived a good life like Ryan in Saving Private Ryan where coincidentally, eight men also died for him.

how come they didnt see he wasnt beheaded? lucky for him the japs never pay attention then.

i thot usually after beheading they also dump them into a grave and cover it up.

its a miracle he survived.

Please excuse my ignorance due to a censured environment. Is it the prataman or the old man ish translator for the brutual "Ka Lou"? (thats what my grandfather used to refer to the Japs, because they always say "sokah".)

He should have become a translator during the occupation.

Sometimes I wonder what the hell these people waiting for ?
Waiting to be beheaded yet do nothing to defend themselves .
Do you wait for fate or intervene .
I rather die trying to break free or
fighting then accept the fate that is coming
.

How can it be possible that the whole settlement
of Singapore cannot fight that of the Japanese Army .
Is it man's selfishness or self-preservation that
doing nothing is prolonging one's life.
Knowingly they are taking every able man quietly into the night .
Executing each and everyone .

Are PAP telling us to be submissive ?
Or are they saying we are of poor stock and origin.

People only read but fail to realise the teachings of the story and learning from it .

Most traitors are allowed to live their natural life .

Their lifetime, thinking of the ones they betrayed is in itself a torture .
