IN 1942, when Singapore was under Japanese occupation, Mr Yew Kian Chang, then in his 20s, was lined up with eight other young men.
A Japanese solder wielding a metre-long sword then beheaded the group one by one. Mr Yew was the last in line, but the blade did not go deep enough to kill him. Today, he still bears the scar at the back of his neck.
The 93-year-old may be the last person who can bear witness to the first-hand experience of the horrible massacre.
