Why so many empty seats at Budget Debate?

LAST month's Budget Debate was one of the most important Parliament sessions in recent history. For the first time, the 'dual key' system was being activated to unlock our reserves, underscoring the severity of the economic crisis and the significance of the Budget in sustaining the economy. Yet, many seats in the House were glaringly empty for many of the sessions. Although I am not of voting age yet, it puzzles and worries me.
On what grounds can a Member of Parliament (MP) be excused from Parliament sessions? Many MPs hold full-time jobs. Given the importance of the annual Budget debate, I am sure the MPs would have been informed of the dates early enough to adjust their schedules and ensure attendance. Are our MPs having difficulties juggling parliamentary responsibilities and their own jobs?
Are MPs obliged to attend Parliament based on only their own interest in the issues discussed, or is it based on their membership in their respective Government Parliamentary Committees? Can Parliament disclose the attendance rate of each MP in the last financial year, up to and including the latest Budget debate? This will give the electorate a view of how active their MPs are in attending parliamentary sessions.

<style></style>This is the travesty of our parliament system. Why cannot the MP serve the people full time?Which comes first !.Their career or their job to serve the people who elected them?

Nobody gonna argue with any MP if they want to pursue their more rewarding career. But why wonna be a MP at all if they have no time to serve the people who put them into the parliament?

This is sick.

There is no need to vote since the MPs can only vote base on party line. Everything is already decided before hand, there will be no change even if you want to debate. So is there a need to attend at all?

If the writer doesn't understand what would create a full attendance in Parliament, I don't know who will. Look at the full attendance in the 50s and 60s with a robust opposition ready to vote out PAP anytime.

The Singapore economy is in crisis and many people are unemployed. More people will soon be unemployed. It is so irresponsible on the part of the MP that are missing in the budget debate which is now the most important matter.

Though the individual MP is responsible, a greater responsibility should be placed on the head of the political party of these MP. The head should have kept the MP in order and compel them to perform their duties as elected representative of the people. If LKY and PM Lee tells the MP to show up, would they still be missing ? Wonder where was LKY ? Sure hope they are both spending time of fixing the economy and getting Singaporean employed.
