Interesting, it was Admiral Cheng Ho, a Chinese Muslim, who brought Chinese Muslims to Sumatra & established trading links with the Arabs, that brought Islam & the eventual downfall of the majapahit empire.

persians, from the coastal region of ancient basra, were already trading with t'ang and song china (s'ung) at the port of canton (guangdong) by ship before any majapahit shit in south east asia. they were all over the sea routes between basra and china, including the malacca straits and south china sea. they were also in the mediterranean, indian ocean, and east african coast before many ancient civilizations (remember the vast persian fleet off the coast of the greek archipelago in the battle of thermopylae?).

t'ang soldiers, or rather prisoners of war, were returned to china at the port of canton several years later (in fact over a decade later) by persian ships after the battle of talas between the abbasid caliphate and t'ang in talas, near kazakhstan/kyrgyzstan border, thousands of miles away from south china. seafaring persian families settled in south china during the t'ang and song eras.

Did I miss the part on the Persians? when I was reading history when I was young, I have always thought that it was the Arabs. Cheng Ho was a recent read I came across that he was one of the contributor to the decline of the Mejapahit empire. It is sad that many youngsters today, know very little about history.

at around the 9th century, the assyrians, babylonians, egyptians and persians were rolled over by arab religious fervor. the respective cultures were decimated, but remnants kept some old cultural ways in faraway colonies. the mongols took care of the arab caliphates, except in egypt, in the 13th and 14th centuries.

I have noticed one very unique thing. If the guy who does something great happens to chinese but has a bit of some other mixture put down the chinese part and make big the other racial part. Cheng he might have arab in him i don't know cos you claimed it but he's majority chinese more than 80%.
