What is of interest to me is what the "lesser mortals" of Spore are getting and not the civil servants, their cronies, & foreign nationals.
I've long learned not to assume anything but the worst from the PAP. They've lied & cheated Sporeans for too long. There is just too much money $$$ involved to assume otherwise. So unless you have a credible source that this rebate is permanent, don't expect others to believe it.

Our neighbours have not spent as much as Spore on defence & if they are spending more it is to replace obsolete HW, increase their pay & of course to catch up with Spore.
However they still are spending to fund social welfare costs unlike in Spore. Have you gone to a hospital or polyclinic lately A night at Mt Elizabeth hospital will cost you $700

Don't forget that NS is a cost to Sporeans. So too is the reservist commitments. With the increasing costs of living in Spore the true cost of NS to Sporeans is increasing.

Reintroduced the Estate Duty which was abolished in 2008.

It really depends on how the laws are crafted. If they really wanted to lessen the impact they could easily have reduced the amount that dead people owe after they die.
The rational for the estate taxes is to avoid people from accumulating too much $$$.

However the PAP probably abolished the tax because they wanted to hide the amount they have AND how they got all this $$$$$. This would have raised many, many embarrassing questions
