sdp has once again been beaten by PINKDOT in honglim speakers' corner. again, it proves that many aren't interested in SDP's ranting than PINK interest. so do not be fooled next time by SDP miserly turn out and reported "their support is increasing".

there is DEMOCRACY in the heartlanders. the turnout in PINKDOT had shown the TRUTH.

Gay community assembles at Hong Lim Park
Saturday, 16 May 2009
Singapore Democrats

The gay and lesbian community congregated at Hong Lim Park today for the "pinkdot" celebration. Approximately 1,000 people were decked out in anything that was pink, including T-shirts, hats and umbrellas. A little dog was even dyed the colour.

The event included dancing and music as well as the more traditional lion dance. The occasion, according to the organisers, was aimed at bringing gay and lesbian people "closer to their family and friends."

The highlight of the afternoon was the formation of a pink dot -- a rather large one -- by the participants. At the designated moment those in the formation opened their umbrellas and released balloons.

The event is the first of its kind organised by a civil society group. The other occasion that attracted as many people were meetings held by Mr Tan Kin Lian for cheated mini-bond investors.

Today's commemoration signals an active civil society, albeit one confined to the gay community. It shows that Singaporeans are eager to assemble and can do it peacefully.

Hopefully, this will encourage other Singaporeans to step forward to similarly exercise their right of speech and assembly, although it must be pointed out that under the Constitution the Government does not have the power to restrict gatherings to the Speakers' Corner. Such a restriction makes a mockery of free speech and freedom of assembly.

when SDP speaks, how many "supporters" appear? the usual handful of misguided lot.

strangely, SDP agrees that it was a "peaceful" event. more even weirder, there wasn't mobilisation of police.

why?

this is a straightforward event with no "hidden motive" unlike sdp which usually has a more sinister intention and possibility to incur public anger which might lead to a bigger violence.

the gov doesn't trust SDP and so do the peasants and hence a pathetic turnout for their events as always.

it's strange that people do not ostracise handicaps or deformity but the same people seem to be overwhelmed by prejudices against homosexuality.

imperfection makes perfection a test of GRACIOUSNESS in our society's maturity. as long as the gays follow the laws, does it make them a lesser human beings? by ostracising them, does that make u a better HUMAN?

"holier than thou" seems to be the prevailing hypocrisy that is corrupting many so called stauch followers of their religious belief. please check up on your teaching again to attest seriously your "holiness".

where are the TRUE HUMAN RIGHTS FIGHTERS when u need them to speak up?

If Singapore jobless workers were to have something of this size, the govt will definitely pee in their pants.

do gay workers get ostracised? there are many gay teachers hiding in closets. they couldn't be themselves for fear of the prejudices and stigmas attached to their sexuality.

why as a human being, gays are not allowed to live freely?

these are real concern in singapore and look what SDP are fighting for? the burmese, the FTs and all irrelevant matters which don't even bother peasants. it's no wonder SDP cannot click with the people they are dying for their supports. support SDP for what? so that they would go and fight for others rather than their own people. stupid , isn't it?
