Waiting for patient to die, izzit? SO, the complaint can be dropped?

SINGAPORE - Dr Ang Peng Tiam, a prominent cancer doctor in private practice, has been fined $25,000 by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) following complaints by a patient in 2010.
Dr Ang's company, TalkMed Group, issued a release on Sunday to say that Dr Ang has "been strongly advised to appeal against the decision" and that he has decided to do so.
TalkMed is publicly listed and the release by Mr Lee Boon Yong, its chief financial officer, is in compliance with rules of the Singapore Exchange.

A spokesman for TalkMed told The Straits Times: "We have not yet communicated with the SMC as the formal and full grounds of appeal are still being prepared."
In 2010, a family member of a patient who had been treated by Dr Ang had filed four complaints against the oncologist with the SMC, the professional watchdog.

There were no further details on the complaints in the TalkMed statement.
It was one of 152 complaints against doctors the SMC received that year. All the complaints are then seen by the Complaints Committee which decides if there is merit to the complaints. If there is, the case is heard by a disciplinary tribunal.
The tribunal heard the complaints against Dr Ang, who is also the Medical Director at the Parkway Cancer Centre.
The entire process usually takes several years.
The tribunal cleared Dr Ang of two charges, but found him guilty of the other two and imposed a $25,000 fine on him.
Doctors found guilty by the SMC are usually given a month to decide if they will appeal the decision. Such appeals are heard by the High Court.
If there is no appeal, the decision of the tribunal, and the reasons for the decision, would be made public after a month.
TalkMed's release added: "We have full confidence in Dr Ang and the day-to-day operations of the company are not affected."

The guy is a President Scholar and old man consulted him about his son and he acted as liaison between foreign consultants and the family.

he was a good swimmer, he did the country proud by winning the 5m race

Investigate the credentials and qualifications of fake Myanmar doctors is damn fast. So fast that even basic checks not carried out and granting them interim license to practice in super quick time. Faster then SPF show up at an oppo unlicense gathering. But investigate patient complaints against one of their own high profile Dr. takes forever. I think they just want to outlast the patient and hope he dies, so complaint is dropped. 6 years is fucking ridiculous to investigate a Dr. How many patients might he have harmed during this 6 years?

The guy from years ago was noted for his business acumen. He has one ex PAP MP Chandra Das and one present PAP MP Sitoh sitting on his Board. He takes home about $20m a year. Most of his clientele are Indonesians and foreigners. i doubt any locals go to him.

Why not? He is famous for being part of team of doctors at SGH/NUH who treated LHL lymphoma successfully.

You're right. Most of his clients are from Indonesia and Vietnam. None from China yet.

At first I thought Parkway Cancer Centre was the employer and Dr Ang one of the partners. No, I was wrong, Dr Ang is the main partner and the founder of the cancer centre.

Dr Ang has a very cosy relationship with The Straits Times. There's a weekly series called "Mind & Body" and Dr Ang would write articles for it. All but one of his write-ups are about his successes with cancer patients, even those at a very advanced stage of the disease. It gives the wrong impression that he's a miracle-worker.

He too has a cosy relationship with Mediacorpse. Correct me if I'm wrong....about two to three years ago, Mediacorpse used to telecast a series of his achievements with cancer, even advanced stage cancer.

His centre/clinic is staffed with foreign clinical assistants. 3 to 4 are Vietnamese, 5 to 6 are Indonesians and the rest from Malaysia. I understand why he needs them because most of his clients are from these countries.

It was rumored that he has connections in high places. Maybe that's why patient complaints against him take a very long time to look into.

He has also written a book. He was one of the local pioneering oncologists thus the profile. He is also has an Indonesian Chinese chap who is a fixer for good clients. Cancer and even terminal cases are very lucrative especially amongst the rich as they want to ensure their family members do not suffer as much. He is also big into palliative care for the rich. Remember Susan Lim and her overcharging case. It involved a single terminal cancer patient. She milked that patient for $24m.

He is also a Datuk. Is he a MALAYSIAN?

"In recognition of his public service, the Sultan of Kedah conferred upon him a datukship in 2003."

Its was done by a foreign team of doctors. The locals just followed instructions.

Oh really, so the team had foreign help for LHL. No wonder other local cancer patients at SGH/NUH like my late father was not cured.

This does not sound like a caring young doctor I met at NCC years ago, though we were not under his care when our doctor went over to seek his opinion he usually came over to join in discussion, sometime at length

ya.. i remember it was 6m not 5m. definitely the wrong guy.

devoid of humor and small talk, that's all i can say. that's why he's the lonely grumpy uncle in the playground, correcting everyone and trying to strike a conversation while everyone is swinging and seesawing with laughter.

This chap appears somewhat similar to the 'retired' pap MP cardiologist Michael Lim who also seems to have links with sph but in BT instead.

Anyway the true top respected oncologist in Singapore today would probably be Kong Hwai Loong, one of the "muskeeters" along with the current president of NUS Tan Chorh Chuan.

The word is that it is a public listed company and therefore disclosure was required but the appeal is unlikely to go to the very end. Hoping that people will forget.
