Lui Tuck Yew to look into stricter alcohol licensing measures for Little India
"How many times must i tell u that i don't watch porn!"
SINGAPORE: Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said he will look into limiting liquor licences within the Little India area. He will also look into properly demarcating areas where drinking is allowed, and setting the time for which it is allowed.
Mr Lui is a member of parliament for Moulmein-Kallang GRC, which covers Little India,
He was speaking on the sidelines of a visit to residents and business owners in the Race Course Road area, following Sunday night's riot, where 27 men from South Asia were arrested.
He assured residents that the police will step up presence in the affected area.
He stressed that it was "too early to say definitively" what caused the incident, and that it will take time to gain a deeper understanding of why this happened.
Noting that the riot was a "very, very serious" incident, Mr Lui added: "We sometimes take our peace for granted. This is a reminder that things can flare up and we need to be prepared." - CNA/ac
