Food & beverage firm tops tender list with a monthly rent offer of $79,251

A NEWLY set up food and beverage company fronted by Italian Gabriele Piegaia has topped the bids for the keenly contested former Alkaff Mansion site.

The two-month-old company, LES, topped the tender with a monthly rent offer of $79,251, which is about three times the Singapore Land Authority's (SLA) monthly guide rent of $28,100.

Fragrance Group came in second with a monthly offer of $41,300 while Bakerzin Holdings was third with $36,380.

The top three bidders declined to be interviewed.

Perched on top of Telok Blangah Hill Park, Alkaff - a majestic conserved building - has been left vacant since 2003. The SLA recently put it up for lease by tender.

Of the nine bidders, six had offered to pay a monthly rent that is above the guide rent. They included food and beverage players Villa Frangipani.com and Timbre 2.

For driving up the costs of living by renting at such an exorbitant price, I already BOYCOTT this ALkaff Mansion whatever they plan to do by these ITALIANS.:oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo:

FUCK THEM! ANYONE ELSE BOYCOTTING THEM?

3 TIMES MORE THAN THE OFFICIAL RENTAL GUIDE. CHOU CHEE BYE TO THESE ITALIANS,:oIo:

This is a perfect example of why the COST OF LIVING is so HIGH in Singapore.

I would like to ask why are such sites not reserved for LOCAL companies to tender?

How can LOCAL companies compete against FT companies.

3 times the asking price certainly raises PLENTY of eyebrows .

Anyone else boycotting this place? Please up this thread with your answer.

The local Malay community have already boycotted this place for years after talk started about bias service/dress codes towards angmo tourists over their own people. Abangs are more united.

Another hang out for the Rich and Elite. Normal sinkies just visit Kopitiam, drink cheap Kopi of 90 cents or tiger beer at $4.20 per bottle.

What these Italians pay is irrelevant to me. What I really want to know is why SLA let an asset like this sit vacant for 7 years? Even if they rent it put for $20K a month, they would have earned over $1.6 million in 7 years. I have a problem with not only this govt. agency, but many other govt. agencies like the HDB who do not maximize their assets to get the best returns and instead do shit like this. People on this thread need to see the real picture. Who cares if a bunch of Italians pay too much and than go out of business? Better to ask why the SLA is mismanaging their assets.

Maybe it's like they see their background .
Even if they can pay cash they will not let for a various unfulfilled criteria .

For reasons unknown it's protectionism ...

It's rented for Don Corleone to set up his business here

I don't need to boycott. I think I just cannot afford to go there.

have you seen how many places like this close? it will these guys do not understand the local market

mad! sky high rent means sky high prices. Only rich people and fools eat there to show off their standing. eat pizzas or what?:D

I don't even drink kopi at kopi tiam, I go home and drink 3-in-1 coffee and I don't drink beer.
Does that mean I'm even worse off than normal singkies? :(

It simply means you are austere and humble.

Why should NSmen still being paid a couple of hundred bucks to allow these FTrash to buy over the land and sleep ever so safely and soundly while the Familee TRAITORS + FAPee DOGS laugh their way to the bank?

Curious about why the Capitol Theatre has remained vacant for so many years, Its only now that they have decided to do something with it.

They stole that place over 10+ years ago from shaw. Obviously the abuse of the land acquisition act. Long time since there have been any farmers in Spore but it hasn't stopped them from abusing the law:rolleyes:

The pool at Bukit Merah is currently being utilised as an aquatic and fitness centre by a private operator.
The Singapore Sports Council (SSC) has received proposals from several national sports associations and private organisations to use the facilities for various sports and recreational programmes.
However, the SSC deemed these proposals as unsuitable and two of the swimming complexes - Pandan Gardens and Yan Kit - will be returned to the State.
