How world media reported Lok Sabha election results

The 'aura of invincibility' around Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been 'shattered' by the Indian voters who gave the Opposition a new lease on life, this is how the international media described the outcome of India's general elections.

According to the results for all Lok Sabha constituencies, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 240 of the 543 seats and the Congress 99.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has comfortably crossed the majority mark of 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha though the BJP lost its outright majority.

The New York Times started its report by noting, 'Suddenly, the aura of invincibility around Narendra Modi has been shattered.'

For the past decade, India has been 'synonymous internationally with its prime minister, Narendra Modi. But on Tuesday, as final election results poured in, the electorate appeared to show dissatisfaction with the status quo and placed the serial winner onto shaky ground', The Washington Post wrote.

World leaders congratulate Modi on third term

Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong described Modi's victory as 'historic' and said he was looking forward to working with his Indian counterpart to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations next year.

Lok Sabha Results: Modi's Myth Shattered

The Vishwaguru who addressed the maximum rallies and boasted of being blessed with divine energy, who promised guarantees in his own name, turned out finally not invincible, points out Jyoti Punwani.

The other equally crucial outcome of this result is the shattering of the myth of Dear Leader. The Vishwaguru who addressed the maximum rallies and boasted of being blessed with divine energy, who promised guarantees in his own name, turned out finally not invincible.

There could have been no better indicator of this than the changed language of our TV channels. On Monday night, three anchors and their guests spent an hour singing paeans to 'Brand Modi', comparing him to a 'buffet; from whom every section can take what it likes, a dashavtar who presents himself differently to different people.

On Tuesday, when the results clearly showed that the BJP was substantially short of a majority on its own, these same anchors were questioning their BJP guests on whether the 'Modi factor' was enough any longer.

Modi's own victory too sits strangely with the claims he and his party make about him being the chosen of the gods. At 6 pm, Modi's victory margin was slightly higher than 152,000, down from almost 5 lakhs and 4 lakhs in 2019 and 2014 respectively ------ ie 500,0000 and 400,000

Rahul Gandhi, on the other hand, the man whose name the PM and his party take with derision, was leading with more than 3,89,000 votes in Rae Bareli, and 3,64,000 from Wayanad.

The icing on the cake is that this time, it was the Congress' narrative that made a difference to the outcome. Rahul Gandhi holding up the Constitution; and the Congress' warning that the Constitution would be in danger if the BJP wins 400-plus seats, seems to have swayed people to deny this dangerous prize to those in a position to change it.

It is very important to hold the integrity and efficiency of the country with one party control the Parliament, like ridout Road case, can be heard in Parliament instead of court, saving many tax payer money and time

India reminds the world it is more than Modi

“India cuts Modi down,” blared the headline in my hometown Kolkata’s main newspaper, the Telegraph, after our all-powerful prime minister unexpectedly lost his majority on Tuesday.
The opposition alliance, cunningly abbreviated INDIA, advanced to within 40 seats of claiming power in New Delhi. Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party will need continued support from several restive regional parties in order to govern.

Ignored farmers Modi now gets a changkol up his

Loss of 38 seats in 5 states: Has BJP paid the price for ‘ignoring’ farmers?

Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Arjun Munda lost by a big margin in Jharkhand.

NEW DELHI: The BJP got a major setback in Lok Sabha polls in states marked by farmers’ protests, resulting in the party falling short of the majority mark.
The Narendra Modi-led government had ignored the farmers’ demands and the ruling party lost seats which it had won in 2019 in different states. Moreover, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Arjun Munda lost by a big margin in Jharkhand.

The BJP has lost around 38 seats mostly confined to protesting farmers’ belts, such as western UP, Punjab, Haryana, northern Rajasthan and onion-growing belt in Maharashtra. In many places the BJP leaders had not been able to conduct their campaign.

Farmers resumed their protest in February to march towards Delhi but they were halted at Punjab-Haryana border. Farmers from Haryana and western UP had not been allowed to enter the capital. Experts say the impact of farmers’ protests has hurt the BJP’s prospects in other states too.

In western UP, the BJP lost polls in Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Kairana, Nagina, Moradabad, Sambhal, Rampur, and also Lakhimpur Kheri where BJP minister Ajay Mishra Teni’s son ran over protesting farmers.

The BJP lost its two seats it had won in the previous election in Punjab, besides 11 seats in Rajasthan and five in Haryana. The party lost 12 out 13 seats in onion-growing belt of Maharashtra.

And the Hindu supremacists claim there is not support for independent Khalistan among Sikhs in Punjab.
But 2 won by huge margins.
One stood for the elections from jail where he is held without trial just like in Singapore Old Fart Lee who detained opposition leeders in jail without trial some for 32 years.

What's next for Amritpal Singh? Lawyer says ‘govt will have to grant relief to jailed pro-Khalistan activist'

Jailed pro-Khalistan activist and Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat winner, Amritpal Singh's lawyer, Rajdev Singh Khalsa said that Singh's efforts were directed towards eradicating drug abuse in Punjab.

Amritpal Singh's wife and lawyer visited Dibrugarh Jail on Wednesday to meet him following his victory in the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat, where he secured a significant lead with 404,430 votes.

Khalsa outlined the legal strategy moving forward, emphasising the pursuit of bail for Singh. He expressed confidence that both the BJP and AAP governments would be compelled to grant relief to Singh due to public support.

Criticising the circumstances of Singh's arrest orchestrated by the Bhagwant Mann government, Khalsa labelled it as dishonest, asserting that the portrayal of law and order issues and Hindu-Sikh tensions was false.

In a highly competitive Lok Sabha election with multiple contenders, Congress managed to retain its seven seats in Punjab, equaling its previous tally.

The BJP saw a dismal turnout in Punjab and Haryana in the Lok Sabha election results declared on Tuesday. While the party failed to win any seats in Punjab, it lost five seats in neighbouring Haryana, where it had won all 10 seats last time.
