In July 2007, MM Lee Kuan Yew proudly and boldly proclaimed that Singapore is in a “golden period” which will extend to many years to come:

“We are into a period of good economic growth and social development. Singapore made 6.6 per cent growth in the last quarter of 2006 and 6.1 per cent in the first quarter of 2007. If there are no wars or oil crises, this golden period can stretch out over many years.”

- MM Lee Kuan Yew, 8 July 2007, Straits Times

Exactly 1 years and four months later….

“We cannot restore people (people’s living standards) to what they were enjoying before the worldwide crash. But we will make sure nobody falls below the poverty line

After studying the situation carefully, ministers have to make a realistic estimate of how much we can afford in additional U-Save, Workfare and other alleviating measures.”

- MM Lee Kuan Yew, 9 November 2008, CNA

Does Mr Lee consider these Singaporeans living above the poverty line ?

Everyone make mistakes-to err is human.
But it is another thing to make mistakes after mistakes causing great sufferings to people and just dismiss them as another "honest mistake".

When you pay yourself the highest salary in the world from public funds- the citizens have the right to expect the highest level of performance.

What is lacking is accountability and check and balances in the system.
When will the people start to wake up and express their dissapointment through the ballot box?
