Wuji was no match for Zhou Zhiruo at end of series, the latter was defeated too easily by 小龙女 descendant.

There were 3 highly skilled monks at Shaolin when Wuji went to resuce Xie Xun. Wuji + Zhiruo combined can only draw against them. Why those monks so powerful?

The 3 monks were elders from 達摩堂 and their skill 金剛伏魔圈 is almost invincible. Shaolin is Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon place. Even lowly librarian or janitor monks have great skills.

Zhang Wuji also could not defeat the Persia Ming Sect and the skill 聖火令

Based on Wikipedia, Jue Yuan is not he creator of Jiuyang Zhenjing. He was the librarian who pursued the thieves before it was lost at Kunlun.

The origin of the skill is sketchy. It was supposedly written by Bodhidharma,the founder of Shaolin and hidden between the lines of the Lanvakatara Sutra. Zhang Sanfeng however had some dobts about this as the skill used Toaist principles and was written in Han Chinese rather than Sanskrit. The mystery of origin of the skill was not resolved beyond this.

Zhu Yuanzhang (the founding Ming dynasty emperor) was featured in Yitian Tulong-ji as a member of the Ming Sect which eventually helped him overthrew Yuan (Mongolians). That's why he called his dynasty Ming. Sun + Moon, 日 + 月 = 明。

种种事故皆和《九阴真经》有关，那想到除了《九阴真经》之外，达摩祖师还着有
一部《九阳真经》。这经书的名字人人都是第一次听见，但《九阴真经》的名头实
在太响，黄药师、周伯通、郭靖、黄蓉、杨过、小龙女皆曾先后研习，少林寺的武
功为达摩祖师所传，他手写的经书自非同小可，是以一听之下，登时群情耸动。

觉远并没察觉众人讶异，又道：“小僧职司监管藏经阁，阁中经书自是每部都
要看上一看。想那佛经中所记，尽是先觉的至理名言，小僧无不深信，看到这《九
阳真经》中记着许多强身健体、易筋洗髓的法门，小僧便一一照做，数十年来，勤
习不懈，倒也百病不生，近几年来又拣着容易的教了一些给君宝。那《九阳真经》
只不过教人保养有色有相之身，这臭皮囊原来也没甚么要紧，经书虽是达摩祖师所
着，终究是皮相小道之学，失去倒也罢了。但楞伽经却是佛家大典，两位居士又不
懂天竺文字，借去也是无用处，还不如赐还给小僧了罢。

杨过暗自骇异：“他已学成了武学中上乘的功夫，原来自己居然并不知晓，还
道只是强身健体、百病不生而已。如此奇事，武林中从所未有。我若非亲眼见他这
般拘谨守礼，必说他是装腔作势、深藏不露。难怪天鸣、无色、无相诸禅师和他同
寺数十年，竟不知侪辈有此异人。”...........

So they put him in the tomb for a period of time while sourcing for a new actor for Yun Fei Yang.

Yes, Tian Can Gong wasn't supposed to change face. It was the actor that was changed, forcing a script change to accommodate it. Xu Shaoqiang made a bad career move. He was on at the prime of his looks then and got carried away with ego and greed. He was duly paid back with blanket blacklisting that he's irresponsible and unreliable. Therefore, for the rest of his career, he could only get bad-guy supporting roles that's easy to blob off if he doesn't show up. No producer dares to trust him with starring roles that could get complicated.

Wuji always let his heart rule his head and his emotions get the better of him.
Maybe he was really inferior to Zhiruo, but he was also guilty that he had left her at the marriage altar.
Wuji and Zhiruo lost to the 3 monks because Zhiruo kelong.
She was hoping that Golden Lion King would remain captive in Shaolin Temple, so that he would not reveal that she had killed Wuji's cousin Yinli.

Zhang Sanfeng was only a boy when his teacher recited the Jiuyang Zhenjing to him and Guo Xiang at his deathbed.
Later, he admitted to his disciples that he could hardly remember any of it, hence he was unable to master the skill and cure his 5th disciple's son (Wuji) when he was injured by the Mongolian henchmen.

Shen Shengyi had some of the best swordfights ever choreographed on TV. I wonder who's the martial arts instructor and choreographer. I was too young then to bother about such things. But frankly, if you're able to get get a Shen Shengyi DVD and watch it again, I think you'd know what I mean. The swordfighting were swift and smooth and stunning without any hint of slow motion, fast motion or special effect. Shen Shengyi wore his sword loosely clipped at his waist without a sheath, classic. Instant strike anytime. It bypassed (not broke) the rules of even the best swords, i.e. out of sheath then must see blood. His sword got no sheath! Caveat emptor!

Another interesting trivia, Tsui was suppposed to have act the role of 乔峰 in the 82 version of 天龍八部 with Ken Tong & Felix Wong (who was 乔峰 himself in a later verison). Tsui was eventually replaced by 梁家仁.

Actually I think it was mentioned in the novel that Zhou Zhiruo's edge was due to the strange nature of Jiuyin Baigu and that in the long run she would be at a disadvantage due to her weak internal strength.

As for the 3 monks...Well considering that they were around since the time of Yang Dingtian and the long years spent honing their skills to fight as one. I think that should be enough.
