While serving NS back in 1979, China was fighting a brief but fierce border war with Vietnam. My men were all captivated by the daily development that were unfolding and reported extensively in the Chinese papers. Now, most of the time, these men were vulgar, lazy, noisy.. but during that period they became more quiet and serious, talking alot about the war amongst themselves. And some even told me they are prepared to go China to fight and die for the motherland. Well, I was impressed!

So our young people may appear lazy, kiasi or displaying the bo chap attitude but when the enemy is at the gate, well, they may be ready and willing to protect, fight and defend ...
