New York City, like many of the world's megacities, is overcrowded. Currently the city's population stands at seven million people, and that number is only growing.

Space, however, remains at a premium, and so many of those coming to the city find it difficult to find a place to call home.

Developers are now looking at an innovative solution that's popular in Tokyo and Mumbai: micro-apartments.

Al Jazeera's Cath Turner reports from New York.
