Opening diplomatic talks with Hamas through proxies will help defuse the situation. Diplomacy is not appeasement because in the end, the brave thing to do is to look into your enemies in the eye, who are sitting across the table, and then talking openly about the situation.
I mean, did anyone accuse Reagan of being an appeaser when he met the Soviet President, Gorbachev in the 80s? Reagan knew that to defeat the Soviet Union, he couldn't use force of arms. So he talked to the Soviet Union, and behind the scenes, he twisted a lot of arms, using economical aid as bait.
The Soviet Union imploded on itself and could not challenge the US as the USSR economy collapsed and was unable to mount a serious threat militarily against the West. Reagan just happen to be at the right time and the right place in history to claim credit for his so called 'diplomacy'.
There has been 'peace talks' in the middle east since 1947 and it solved NOTHING. Peace will onlycome about in these 2 scenarios;
1. Israel wipes out the entire Arab world in a final confrontation which is very remote because even the US and allies can't obliterate the Taleban in Afghanistan.
2. The entire Arab world collapses economically when the world abandons the internal combustion engine and turns to other non fossil fuel energy sources.
If one takes the biblical account of Armageddon, peace can only come about in that final battle of battles. A final showdown between Muslim forces vs Non-Muslim forces perhaps?
Time is running out for the West as Arabs are taking over the West by emigration and religious conversions.
