A METEOR shower has injured 400 people in Russia after causing explosions and shattering windows.
Broken glass hit scores of people near the Ural region of Russia as a meteor streaked across the sky, causing panic among local residents.
The Emergency Ministry said 400 people had phone in asking for medical assistance, with a factory roof also collapsing.
One resident said: "There was panic. People had no idea what was happening.
"Everyone was going around to people's houses to check if they were OK."
Another Chelyabinsk resident, Valya Kazakov, said some elderly women in his neighborhood started crying out that the world was ending.
Reports conflicted on what exactly happened in the clear skies.
Spokeswomen said it was either one meteor or a meteor shower that caused the chaos.
Amateur video appears to show an object streaking across the sky leaving a thick white trail and an intense flash.
