Members of public help to apprehend alleged robber

SINGAPORE - Three members of the public helped to apprehend a 22-year-old male robber when they came forward to assist a 37-year-old man whose mobile phone had been robbed by the suspect.
The victim was at the void deck of Apt Blk 487 Jurong West Avenue 1 on Dec 16 at about 9.59pm when the subject assaulted and robbed him of his mobile phone.
Three members of the public saw the incident and called the police.
While waiting for the police to arrive, two of the members of the public attended to the victim while the other followed the suspect.
The suspect was later arrested by the police with the help of the member of public who identified the suspect at the void deck of Blk 488 Jurong West St 41.
The subject will be charged on Dec 18 for an offence of Robbery with Hurt under Section 394 of the Penal Code Chapter 224.
He can be jailed between five years and 20 years and can be caned at least 12 strokes.
Commander of Jurong Police Division Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Wilson Lim said that the arrest represented yet another example of the strong partnership between the community and the police in fighting crime together.
He also commended the trio for their public spirited actions which led to the arrest of the subject.
