SINGAPORE: MediaCorp will discontinue TV Mobile, the free-to-air mobile digital television broadcast service, next year.

MediaCorp said in a statement released on Tuesday that it has decided to terminate the service upon expiry of its current agreement with SBS Transit on January 1.
...
can v hv lower bus fares after dat? ...

I remember last time when we have this bus fare hike, it was partly due to this TV mobile thingy. Now that it is going to be taken down, can we have refund? In fact, I don't feel comfortable staring at the TV, it makes me dizzy too and I need medical reimbursement from SBS to cure the nausea feelings on the bus while watching blurred TV screen.

They argued that the hike was not due to TV Mobile. In fact the stand was that they were absorbing the costs of TV Mobile.

We can argue that the savings from closing down TV Mobile should be passed onto customers. Then again they would argue that there has been no fare hike this year and incurred costs removing TVM.

A better way is to ask why TV Mobile was set up despite concerns, resulting in wasted costs.

TV Mobile programming is crap. Who on a bus wants to or can follow TV serials? It should be English headlines/news, commercial break, Chinese headlines/news, commercial break, Tamil headlines/news, commercial break, and over and over. At least it can be useful information for commuters to catchup on, and the commercials can be packaged at lower cost per slot and more frequent airings to be attractive to advertisers.

To that scholar or MediaCOCK pomphead who mooted this TVMobile idea, hahahahah, i spit on your face!!!!! Good riddance to bad TV content!!!! What purpose does TVMobile serve in the 1st place? Mundane entertainment to the mundane passengers? Hahahahaha

TV Mobile programming is crap. .

Other than "Just for laughs" what was shown was just reruns of made in Spore programs, that no one is interested in :D

Already paid for by the TV/radio licensing fee

Singapore-made scholar. My foot!!! So far non of them make it to the world stage or even SEA or even locally in private sector. I think those Alex on the streets are still the smarter one. Singapore-scholar are nothing but pap followers and holding their balls when the time calls for them. Still remember the resilient package by billions to help down jobless rate? It is a total failure, recent MOM statistics speak volume of the outcome!

What free?
You paid for it - Your TV Licence Fee.

In that case, they should be screeing X rated movie after 11pm..but then again, all the mediacorpse's TV series have a X rating...X tremely boring & X tremly irritating...

next year they will increase fare again, saying they spent millions to remove the tv

Or they will say loss of income from TV adverts, then have to increase bus fares.... Most likely increase bus fares again soon.

It's about time. Should have done it sonner. Finally, good riddance. No more noise pollution.

It is really irritating especially when you are in a crowded bus standing next to a speaker when they are playing 'just for laughs'. You can't see the screen yet you are being blasted with the laugh track again and again.
