SINGAPORE: MediaCorp will discontinue TV Mobile, the free-to-air mobile digital television broadcast service, next year.

MediaCorp said in a statement released on Tuesday that it has decided to terminate the service upon expiry of its current agreement with SBS Transit on January 1.

The company said the discontinuation comes after a careful evaluation of the viability of the service, as resources required to operate and maintain TV Mobile are substantial.

When the service was launched in 2001, it was the only platform in Singapore that offered digital content to public commuters.

MediaCorp said it will re-deploy all TV Mobile staff to other operations within the company.

I remember last time when we have this bus fare hike, it was partly due to this TV mobile thingy. Now that it is going to be taken down, can we have refund? In fact, I don't feel comfortable staring at the TV, it makes me dizzy too and I need medical reimbursement from SBS to cure the nausea feelings on the bus while watching blurred TV screen.

wait long long...:D

so we will be expecting lower fare when it is gone?

Technology will always catch up faster than what a Government linked Singapore company employed PAP scholar thinks is a great idea.

In two years time, nearly everyone with a handphone will be watching TV, downloaded live from the internet.

If they, the Government linked companies want to look for and set up sustainable investment projects, they should go to the Istana and seek the help of the Great Helmsman Lee Kuan Yew who can forecast developments way, way into the future.

Is it short term forecast or long term forecast? Long term forecast is defined as anywhere from two to a trillion years.

So what did stupid old fart said?

Singapore is recovering!

Ask him to come and suck my toes!

FUCK SBS for installing TV and increase fare. Now will the FUCK SBS reduce fare. Poor commuter fool by the fare increase.

finally I can have a quiet bus ride (provided no noisy asians around).

the young people are no longer tuning to SPH and Mediacorp mediums of propaganda. now that they lose TV Mobile, another tentacle has been severed.

SBS believes in experimenting lah.

Didn't SBS installed payphones on buses years ago before handphones were common

I remember they offered free newspapers on their buses for commuters to read :)

Anyone remember when SBS turned property developer, on property near sixth ave . :)

And that's after spending hundreds of millions and Sporns being made to pay for it in the form of regular fare hikes! Fcuk the PAPee Dogs!

Nera Telecom was also suckered into having a stake if I recall correctly.

Before this was rolled out, Mediacorp held a survey with about a hundred people, gauging their reactions; they were asked to vote between a radio-based channel or TV channel. Of course if you show Mr Bean to the audience the vote will swing one way.

Lousy content, pixelated screen, plus the fact only a few can actually watch comfortably if they even want to watch at all, all these point to its demise the day it started. Bloody waste of time, money and effort.
