MediaCorp honours the best in journalism
Singapore's leading media company MediaCorp celebrated the best in journalism at its 5th News Awards on Friday night.
The awards are for the best in television, radio, print and online - produced all across its key editorial platforms, including Channel NewsAsia.
Ms Michelle Chong, MediaCorp actress who acts as "Barbarella" in "The Noose", said: "I feel that I am very lucky to be in invited to such a credible and serious award show."
This year, a new Journalist Choice Award was handed to a person who went the extra mile for journalists to clinch that special story.
And the award went to a Director from the Finance Ministry who engaged the media during the all-important Budget Debate.
The face of Channel NewsAsia in Indonesia - Sujadi Siswo - clinched the Journalist of The Year award.
Channel NewsAsia's blogtv also won big - for Online Initiative Of The Year - for pushing boundaries in technology, marrying both the traditional Broadcast medium of television with the online medium. The programme starts on the net - goes "live" on TV - and carries on "online" - a challenge producers relished.
A touching programme - Extraordinary People-Hospice Volunteer - by MediaCorp News clinched the Feature Story Of The Year.
Ms Alicia Wong from TODAY newspaper bagged two awards - Young Journalist of the Year and News Story of the Year for her article tracking Women's group AWARE's sexuality education programme.
The Story of the Year with Public Participation also went to TODAY newspaper for a story "My Life: Then & Now" which commemorated 50 years of self-rule in Singapore.
The Entertainment Story of the Year went to 8 Days for their feature "Mi-chelle We Get Married? Love Shaun".
