MediaCorp honours the best in journalism
Singapore's leading media company MediaCorp celebrated the best in journalism at its 5th News Awards on Friday night.

The awards are for the best in television, radio, print and online - produced all across its key editorial platforms, including Channel NewsAsia.

Ms Michelle Chong, MediaCorp actress who acts as "Barbarella" in "The Noose", said: "I feel that I am very lucky to be in invited to such a credible and serious award show."

This year, a new Journalist Choice Award was handed to a person who went the extra mile for journalists to clinch that special story.

And the award went to a Director from the Finance Ministry who engaged the media during the all-important Budget Debate.

The face of Channel NewsAsia in Indonesia - Sujadi Siswo - clinched the Journalist of The Year award.

Channel NewsAsia's blogtv also won big - for Online Initiative Of The Year - for pushing boundaries in technology, marrying both the traditional Broadcast medium of television with the online medium. The programme starts on the net - goes "live" on TV - and carries on "online" - a challenge producers relished.

A touching programme - Extraordinary People-Hospice Volunteer - by MediaCorp News clinched the Feature Story Of The Year.

Ms Alicia Wong from TODAY newspaper bagged two awards - Young Journalist of the Year and News Story of the Year for her article tracking Women's group AWARE's sexuality education programme.

The Story of the Year with Public Participation also went to TODAY newspaper for a story "My Life: Then & Now" which commemorated 50 years of self-rule in Singapore.

The Entertainment Story of the Year went to 8 Days for their feature "Mi-chelle We Get Married? Love Shaun".

Dr Chitra Rajaram, Director of MediaCorp NewsHub, said: "The annual News Awards is the platform where MediaCorp celebrates the best of the best in journalism be it TV, radio, print or online. It is all about telling that one great story."

I laughing too. No others country taking part. Or others than Mediacorp . They give award to them self and whole world is laughing because ranking really low if rank in world ranking.:D:D:D

Having "internal party" is not uncommon in Mediacorp and SPH. Unfortunately such boring event also must broadcast for everyone to see as if they were celebrating hollywood award. Like the saying goes, when the prostitutes are bored, they masturbated each other to pass time.

what a bunch of jokers

i am thoroughly disappointed why they don't report on local issues

example, why most of our youth are so useless

got attitude and nothing else

why don't they report on business owners having to hire according to some dependency ratio

wow look at all the medals they gave themselves!
