Reputation of a university is based on its quality of students. With good students will attract good lecturer ... it will then attract more good students. Thus, the university's reputation increases. E.g Harvard, Tsinghua, Tokyo, Seoul etc. They can afford to select the best student as enrolment out strip the number of students applying.

The last I checked, Mat Uni is nowhere reputable as its student are mostly Malays intake who have lower IQ and thus lower expectation.

These lists of reputable universities are very doubtful. Very few, china universities are on that list despite advances.
