For the first time in 44 years, a Malay student has been awarded the President's Scholarship.
Mr Adil Hakeem Mohamad Rafee, 19, who studied at Raffles Institution, became the second Malay student to be awarded the country's most prestigious scholarship after Mr Ismail Ibrahim, who received the award in 1968.
He was among five recipients this year who received their awards from President Tony Tan Keng Yam at the Istana on Wednesday evening.
The other four recipients are Mr Moses Soh and Mr Jarret Huang from Raffles Institution; Miss Alicia Tee from of Hwa Chong Institution, and Mr Shaun Lim from Anglo-Chinese School (Independent).
