Photos of Beijing Marathon runners peeing against a wall on Sunday have gone viral on the Internet.
Some runners noted that they had to urinate in public because portable toilets on the route were limited, while others argued that public urination was a tradition of the event.
In its 33rd year, the Beijing Marathon drew 30,000 participants.
Tadese Tola of Ethiopia broke the event record set 27 years ago to win the men's race and China's Zhang Yingying claimed the women's title.
