Here is where the policy failure occurred. The PARF policy was replaced by ERF. What was controlled for decades in a streamlined manner with cars allowed as more roads were built suddenly went haywire. Notice the additional gantries were unexpected and rushed thru after someone went thru the CTE one fine day.
The Minister involved is no longer in Government.
The desire to remove the high cost of cars in affordability index for attracting investment and to placate the comments FTs has cost us dearly.
Now you know why forums like this are important. Things like this you never ever find in the local press. Welcome to the wider world. You might want to read carefully as you go alone to come up to speed.
The topic of this thread is actually on many here can't wait for singapore to fail. ERP is just on the many issues, where people have voiced their displeasure.
As the years progress, people became more affluent and many just wants to own cars. So with population increasing, cars increase too.
Removing the high cost of cars in affordability index? Cars in singapore are already very expensive compared to other countries. If its lowered, more will be buying. Now because of the taxes, erps, fuel, insurance, parking which many are complaining, that's why many turned to public transport.
When many drive, traffic jams up. When people don't drive and take public transport, another form of complaints comes up, why are the buses and mrts packed.
The ERP is just one of the topic. I ever did thought before, should ERP be abolished. But if its abolished, gantries removed, what will happen to the jams at ERP areas? Will it be better or will it be worst? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know the repercussions.
So whichever way, can there be a win-win situation? Any suggestions?
