Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed £13million new boy Shinji Kagawa will be the star attraction on Manchester United's pre-season tour of South Africa and China, but Wayne Rooney is set to stay behind.
Kagawa is one of the few certainties in the travelling party after Ferguson's summer plans were hit by the need to rest players after Euro 2012 and also the departures of others, including Ryan Giggs and David de Gea, for Olympic duty.United also plan to reward Rooney's below-par performances at Euro 2012 with a three-week break and allow the England striker to miss the club's gruelling tour.

The Red Devils are also supplying three players to England's European Under 19 Championship quest, while Nemanja Vidic and Chris Smalling will not be considered due to injury and Darren Fletcher is due to begin the first tentative stages of his comeback from a chronic bowel complaint.
The pressures on his squad means Ferguson is unlikely to know until the eve of departure exactly who will be on the flight to Durban on July 16.Kagawa will be there, though, offering United fans the first opportunity to see him in action since his summer move from Borussia Dortmund.The 23-year-old will be joined by the Red Devils' other new boy, England Under 18 star Nick Powell, who has signed from Crewe.

PAUL POGBA has snubbed a new Manchester United deal to sign for Italian champions Juventus.
The French midfielder, 19, was considered an outstanding talent but Old Trafford boss Alex Ferguson claimed he lacked respect.
He snapped: “Pogba signed for Juventus a long time ago as far as we’re aware.”

Pogba fell out with Manchester United during new contract talks last season and refused to sign a new deal, deciding to move to Italy rather than continue his education at Old Trafford.
That move was finalised on Tuesday and Ferguson could not resist firing a parting shot at the midfielder who claimed he had become frustrated by a lack of first-team opportunities under him.
“Pogba signed for Juventus a long time ago as far as we’re aware,” Ferguson told MUTV. “It’s a bit disappointing because I don’t think he showed us any respect at all. To be honest, if they carry on that way, I’m quite happy that he’s away, from me, anyway.”
Despite Ferguson’s displeasure at the way Pogba and his advisers acted, his departure is a blow for the Scot, who had expected him to go on to become a key member of the first team squad for years.
The 19 year-old made his first-team debut as a substitute against Stoke in January and Ferguson had hoped his greater involvement in the senior side would persuade him to stay at the club, although he leaves having made a total of just seven appearances.
The former Le Havre prospect, who only moved to England in 2009, has signed a deal that will earn him around £20,000-a-week at Juventus.
Pogba is the second highly-rated young player to leave the club this year after the prodigiously talented but controversial Ravel Morrison was allowed to join West Ham in January.
The future of a third, Ezekiel Fryers, is unclear.
He has also been offered a new contract but has yet to inform United of his decision.
"We haven't heard anything from Zeki Fryers," added Ferguson.
"I don't know what's happening there but he's not been in touch with the club. His agent hasn't been in touch with the club and I can only assume he'll be back for training."

Recent reports suggest that Fergie was in London for talks with the Gunners over RVP. Methinks Modric is the target. We'll probably know in a week or two if he's coming over. Cannot understand why he's bending over for that Croat and pay silly money for him. Haven't we being screwed enough with that Berba acquisition?!!
Now we're known as the 'BIG' club with no penny. IMO, why get a player whose heart is clearly not with the club. If he wants Chelsea or REAL, let him go.

I'd say put them up for sale. Dun make the same mistake you made with Berba as he is likely to walk free if they dun sell him this summer.
Baines and Gaitan are likely in the frame. If Fergie's intention was to call REAL's bluff on Modric, then I think he succeeded. Latest news suggest that REAL has shown their hands and is making a reported 40 million pound bid for the Croat.
What now for the penniless big club? The money they intend to raise in the States will not be sufficient to buy big given the escalating cost and the uncertainty in the Euro zone. With credit remaining tight in Europe and the young talents leaving one after another, perhaps the club needs to rethink their strategy and put the club on a more sustainable path by addressing the alarming rate of attrition, talent retention and above all the ownership issue. You can't roll your debt over and over again without adverse consequences.
