Q. WHERE was the match won and lost?

A. Vincent Kompany is City’s strongest, most dangerous player in the air and his goal was obviously crucial. He was too good for Chris Smalling.

The United defender got blocked, found himself under the ball and was always struggling to meet the corner.

Kompany could not believe his luck getting a free header and I would have been more comfortable seeing Rio Ferdinand mark the City man.

As for United, I was surprised that the pacy Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young did not start and Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes did.

Danny Welbeck made a bit of difference when he came on.

Q. HOW did Mancini get it right?

A. Roberto Mancini went for United’s throat with an attacking style as this was a match they needed to get at least a point from.

City started with David Silva, Carlos Tevez, Samir Nasri, Sergio Aguero and, considering they were at home, I was expecting nothing less.

United have certainly wobbled. I felt that during this part of the season United’s experience would be a massive advantage. Last night, once again, it was not enough.

Q. WHICH players rose to the occasion? And did any of them go missing?

A. Nasri and Silva were always on the ball, looking dangerous.

Gael Clichy did some good stuff down the left but I thought Kompany was again outstanding and kept Wayne Rooney pretty quiet.

Rooney will have been very frustrated despite his efforts.

In a well-contested match, I don’t feel anyone had a nightmare but Smalling will have been disappointed with the way he defended for the goal.

Q. IS this the changing of the guard?

A. You have to take notice of City. Call them noisy neighbours or whatever you want but look at the quality of this squad and the money they have spent.

So, of course, City are a major threat. The fact they now lead the Premier League on goal difference proves they can win it.

They say the first title is the most difficult and City will be hoping for continued success over the next few years — you wouldn’t bet against them.

Q. DID the fans play their part?

A. The atmosphere was OK but I thought it would be a lot louder.

Obviously the place went wild when City scored yet I thought it would have been more intense.

I think the main reason was that the City fans — desperate for a win in one of their biggest ever matches — were incredibly nervous.

Q. WHO in your opinion will win the title now?

A. City now have Newcastle away, followed by a home clash with QPR and I see them winning both.

United face Swansea at Old Trafford this weekend followed by a trip to Sunderland on the final day — and I also think we could see two wins.

As a result, City could scrape the title on goal difference.

If Joleon Lescott had scored, he would have pin the donkey's tail on Rio. It was a momentary lapse on the part of Smalling that led to the goal. Otherwise they held on quite well.

Roy Keane must be rubbing his hands with glee.

UNITED's £11.5M CARRINGTON REVAMP BACK ON TRACK FOR 2012 COMPLETION

Manchester United’s £11.5 million upgrade of their Carrington training base is back on track and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The Sweeper can reveal that the planned developments were put on hold over the winter due to the weather conditions and the soft ground on which the buildings were being erected.

But the scheme is now back on schedule as United improve their facilities with the addition of a sports science department, a medical wing with fitness and rehabilitation centres, new training pitches and upgraded press offices.

The building work on the 108-acre site has put the first-team dressing room out of bounds and Sir Alex Ferguson’s men are currently using portacabins to change and prepare before and after training.

Parking is also described as chaos but United believe that the inconvenience will be worth it as they maintain Carrington as a world-class training centre.

The complex opened in 2000 and already includes some of the best facilities in the world for senior players and the Academy.

We lost becoz Fergie put his faith in the wrong players in key games. I'll blame Fergie for not being aggressive enough with the Glazers to cough up the much needed fund to rejuvenate the squad last season. The one position that was yearning for a lifeline was the defensive midfield role. The signs were all there that Carrick was not the player to plug the holes in defence. There were reports suggesting that he would come good at the second half of the season. Well, we have all seen it for ourselves-RUBBISH!

Evans is the other player that simply cannot perform under pressure. Again I say sell the player for what he's worth and if you must keep him, save him for the games against wheel chair bound players.

The other issue that the boss has to address is the 'tofu' leg players-Phil Jones and Cleverly. Just watch Jones-after one tackle,he'll be holding his shin,ankle and start limping. How to win? It's bad enough we have a squad with no depth. Now we have players with legs made of glass. KNN!!!

The judicial police national unit for combating corruption, part of the Justice Ministry based in Lisbon, is investigating the 11 August, 2010 transfer, by which United paid that fee for a player whose only competitive experience was a single season in the Portuguese third division.

Bébé's agent, appointed days before he moved to United, was Jorge Mendes, also agent to Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Anderson, who moved from Portuguese clubs to Old Trafford in previous seasons.

Of the €9m United paid to Vitória for Bébé, Mendes was paid 40%, £2.89m. It was reported in Vitória's subsequent general meeting that Mendes's cut comprised a 10% agent's commission, €900,000, and the further €2.7m because Mendes had also just acquired 30% of Bébé's "economic rights", part-ownership of the player.

The police unit declined to officially confirm to the Guardian the scope of their inquiries or what precise aspects of the transfer they are investigating.
