The much labored victory over Bolton merely reaffirms the club's need to replenish the squad. In the final third of the season, Giggs and Scholes appear to be struggling with fitness after injury and Evra was for the most part of the game and season-lost!!. Carrick as usual was absolute rubbish which leaves us with Nani, the cry baby.

It will be a miracle if we win any trophies this season.

Scholes didn't play because he was suspended.
But I agree that they need some new blood and there is too much reliance on the ageing duo.

Premier League: West Ham 2 Manchester United 4

Wayne Rooney scored a memorable hat-trick to help Manchester United record a 4-2 comeback victory over West Ham on Saturday.

Two penalties from Mark Noble in the first half put West Ham 2-0 up at half-time, but United refused to lie down and Rooney stole all the headlines with his second half hat-trick.

West Ham opened the scoring after Carlton Cole broke clear of the United defence and attempted to lift the ball over Patrice Evra but the French defender clearly handled the ball inside the box.

Referee Lee Mason pointed straight to the spot and Noble made no mistake sending Tomasz Kuszczak the wrong way from the penalty kick.

The hosts at Upton Park were awarded their second penalty of the game on 25 minutes when Nemanja Vidic was adjudged to have brought down Cole inside the area.

Noble kept his nerve and struck the penalty into the top right hand corner to make it a dream start for the home side. Ferguson knew he needed to take drastic action and brought on Javier Hernandez at half-time to replace Patrice Evra.

Hernandez almost scored with his first touch when he volleyed a cross from Ryan Giggs just over the bar. But United showed the true signs of champions when their amazing comeback started on 65 minutes when Rooney curled a free-kick past Green into the back of the net to start the revival.

The visitors were back on level terms just eight minutes later when Antonio Valencia played the ball into Rooney who combined a great first touch with a clinical finish past Robert Green.

Mason awarded the third spot kick of the game on 79 minutes after Fabio da Silva wove into the penalty area and struck the ball against West Ham captain Matthew Upson.

Rooney sent Green the wrong way from the penalty spot to celebrate his hat-trick and complete the comeback for the league leaders.

United sealed all three points on 84 minutes when Ryan Giggs' cross into the box was tapped in by Hernandez at the far post.

Rooney faces FA ban

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney could face a two-match ban after being charged by the Football Association for using inappropriate language.

The 25-year-old striker faces the prospect of missing United's FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City after the FA charged him for an incident during their win over West Ham at Upton Park on Saturday.

Rooney was heard swearing at a television camera as he celebrated his hat-trick, drawing the ire of the disciplinary panel.

"The FA has charged Manchester United's Wayne Rooney for the use of offensive, insulting and/or abusive language," an FA statement read.

"This charge relates to an incident during his side's fixture with West Ham United at the Boleyn Ground on Saturday, April 2, 2011."

Rooney issued an apology after the game, but could miss the league game against Fulham and the City clash if found guilty.

He has until 6pm GMT on April 5 to respond to the charge.

Seriously, no chance of them making it to the semis. I think Ferguson will pass up this opportunity and prioritize given his dwindling resources-its the EPL, FA and CL in that order. The club's had an unprecedented number of injuries and I suspect some will be asked to play through the pain in the remaining games of the season.
Moreover with Chelsea having only to play the CL to save their season and Ancellotti's job, Fergie will likely do his buddy a favor and promise him the best wine should Chelsea go on to win CL. Just look at the way Ancellotti defended Ferguson when the FA passed down a 5 match ban. It speaks a lot about their friendship.

Me thinks Fergie would put up an ultra defensive lineup to soak up the pressure for 90 mins.He will be smiling even if we lose for the umpteenth time.

Great result. Good to see that they played for each other. Was surprised to see Man U play with two strikers. I guess they were really going for it. Whoever wins this qtf tie will have an excellent chance of qualifying for the finals and possibly win it on 'home' turf.

Neville farewells Old Trafford in style

Manchester United will play Juventus in a testimonial game for Gary Neville at Old Trafford on May 24.

Neville, 36, announced his retirement on February 2 after enjoying a 602-game, 18-year career with United.

Neville, who made his senior debut against Torpedo Moscow in a UEFA Cup tie in 1992 aged 17, and was part of the side that won eight Premier League titles, three FA Cups, two League Cups and the Champions League in 1999, is touched by the gesture from the club.

"I am delighted to be given this game by the club, it is going to be a very emotional night, especially as I pull on that red shirt once more," Neville said."I intend to savour every moment and I hope the fans can share in my special night."

The right-back, who has been capped 85 times for England, has pledged to donate the match proceeds to community projects and supporter initiatives in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Neville retired after a series of injuries had affected his performances; and his last competitive match was on January 1 in the 2-1 Premier League win against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.

Manchester United extended their lead at the top of the English Premier League to 10 points with a comfortable 2-0 home victory over Fulham.

Despite Wayne Rooney being banned for his foul-mouthed rant at West Ham last week, there was no stopping the Red Devils as they secured their 15th win in 16 league games at their Old Trafford home.

Dimitar Berbatov and Antonio Valencia scored first-half goals as United moved further clear of nearest rivals Arsenal, although the Gunners have two games in hand.

Former United favourite Mark Hughes brought his Fulham side to Old Trafford knowing that they are practically safe from relegation and was intent on testing his old side rather than sitting back.

The Cottagers started brightly with Tomasz Kuszczak called into action twice in the opening five minutes when Bobby Zamora and then Moussa Dembele cut in from the right flank to hit low drives that had the Polish goalkeeper at full stretch.

United took the lead in controversial circumstances in the 12th minute when Nani waltzed past three defenders and fed Anderson, who released Berbatov standing in an offside position.

But the Bulgarian made no mistake from his good fortune clipping his shot into the corner of the net on the angle.

United should have doubled their lead five minutes later when Berbatov skipped past two Fulham players and squared for Anderson, who, with time and space, inexplicably missed the target.

United's second finally came on the half-hour mark, when Nani beat Mark Schwarzer to Patrice Evra's long ball, cut inside and when his chipped effort was headed off the line by Chris Baird, Valencia followed up to nod home from close range.

The hosts were slow out of the blocks after the restart, and were given a wake-up call when substitute Eidur Gudjohnsen hit a blistering strike from 20 yards that curled inches wide of the post.

Anderson and Darron Gibson both worked good positions for the home side but shot tamely at Schwarzer.

Baird, well beaten by Nani for long periods, almost pulled a goal back on a rare foray forward when he was picked out in the box by Zamora but his volley dipped over the bar.

Berbatov and John O'Shea tried their luck from long range as United cruised to the final whistle.

It was a fantastic result.Personally, I thot team spirit was the one that carried us thru to the semis and that was evident in both games.

When Rio plays, Vidic is noticeably more at ease at the back. I guess his experience made the difference. Take nothing away from Smalling though, the lad and Hernandez have been nothing short of 'fantabulous' this season.

Lets hope the players that have returned from injury will be able to hold out till the end of May. Park and Anderson is short on fitness, Raphael and possibly Rio may be injured again n Fletcher is no where in sight. Come on United!!!

I am not so optimistic.

I felt sad that Man U still need to depend on 37-yo Giggs to deliver the killer pass / cross.

Even if they sign a top drawer replacement this season, which they ought to, it will take 1 - 2 season for him to bed in.

Agree. I can't imagine a Man Utd team without Giggsy. I think they tried to sign Di Maria last season but the player chose REAL. For now, they are happy to play Valencia on the right and Nani on the left. I dun think they will ever find another player like Giggs in the academy. Yes, they should find a suitable replacement for Giggs asap.

The sad news is that Scholes may retire at the end of the season. There is no one in the current squad that can shoot and pass like Scholes. Carrick and Darron Gibson are rubbish.
